Default Lowered tC, Still fit 19" rims?

whats up? i was just wondering if 19" rims would still fit my car with no problem, since i have it dropped about 2". I was thinking i might have a problem with rubbing, but i was not quite sure. Or should i just stick with 18", since i am building my power up, and i am going to be driving it alot!

Also...if i take my car to the drag strip, instead of using my stock rims can i just throw on some other wheels and tires from like another car?(just as an example...Like off of an xB?) Stock rims and tires off another car, that are NOT "good" wheels? I just do not want to use up my tires that quick on my stock rims. Shoul i purchase slicks?

I'm positive you'll have fender problems. Even if you don't while sitting still, keep in mind your suspension would be bouncing if you take a turn that has an elevated/bumpy road. Stick with 18s.

I never quite understood this whole "I have larger diameter wheels, will I rub" bit. If you do things properly, overall diameter will be the same for 19", 18", 17"... You should be thinking about your rim width, rather than its diameter.

Exactly! You always want to size the wheel/tire to be the same as the stock, to maintain proper gearing. If you stick with 7.5-8" wide, you "should" be OK. I'll be trying to fit some 9.5's in the back and may need some slight modification to the fender wells.

ok thanks guys, i will prob just stick with 18's....but what about me going to te drag strip? i dont wanna use my "good" rims....can i get some wheels and tires from like another car, that are stock wheels and tires? would that mess with my traction? those tires would seem to be cheaper than some low pro tires....ALSO how does offsets on wheels work? Anyone tell me?

You shouldn't have to worry if you get 35 series tires.

You wanna buy a new set of rims, but want to keep the stocks pristine? For what? you can buy slicks, but it's just gonna cost you more money and most weekend warriors aren't gonna shell out the dough to run slicks on the track. Use your 17's.

no i dont want to keep the stock look...i want to "not" use up a more expensive low profile tire...i just thought if i had some plain jane rims to throw on at the strip (for the front of my car) then it would save tread for me. like warm'n the tires up and what not. do you think that a steel rim is going to keep my times higher in the quarter mile? i was just wondering, thanks

i have the RH Pro J5 wheels, 19" x 8.5 wrapped in Pzero Neros (225/35ZR19) and i have a feeling you would rub with a 2" drop. 8.5 is wide for the tC's front fenders imo.

You'd have to stretch the tires out with 8.5s...

1.8 inch drop all around, ZERO RUBS, i had my 19" rims and drop for a week now and i have driven over potholes, crappy cracked uneven roads with absolutely no concerns at all. One thing though, going lower than 2 inches is getting risky in my book. G'luck!!!

...on the subject of 18's...they are just so ordinary and so close in diameter to the stock 17 inchers, i rather just stay stock than go with 18's. The difference is just not dramatic enough, that's why i ultimately chose to go with getting 19 inchers after weeks of doing research.

I have 19x8.5 all the way around on Tein Stechs which are rated at an over 2inch drop I believe... I have rubbing ONLY when I go over a medium-large bump, and it's not even noticeable unless the radio is off...I have checked under the fenders and it's not even enough to rub out a spot on the tires or fender well....

just be really careful driving.... and I would recommend "bigger" tires than what I have just to be safe...

when you have 19" you cant really have much bigger tires than you have. i notice you have 215/35ZR19, i have 225/35ZR19. that isnt that much of a difference, but none the less, with that big of a wheel, you cant get bigger tires on the tC unless you raise it or use spacers.

where do you rub?
btw... even a little rubbing can cause alot of damange...

I meant that I did not want the tires as "stretched" as they are, next time I will get better fitting tires, I am not running any kind of setup that stretched tires would help me.

and i know rubbing can do damage, when i hit a large bump it goes "eep" and thats it. the tc is handling the wheels well

I have a 2 inch drop on 19s with no rubbing. I agree that 18s are to close to stock. Go with 19s you will not be disappointed.
