Making TC handle as good as EVO!
Well I got 2 friends who own a 2003 evolution 8 and a 1991 miata now when we hit the mountain roads its a no brainer I am in dead last and sliding around those corners (
) now when we hit a straight so I can catch up to the miata a little bit but my main goal is to make my tc handle as good a evo or miata. I have went through some stuff and picked out all the necessary sutff I think needed. Tell me whats good and whats not!
Hotchkis Sways
Sustec Pro S-OC (tanabe coilovers)
Toyo T1 Proxies (Tires)
LSD (I don't think anybody makes one for our car yet

Sport Compact Car's project tC handles damn near close to an Evo MR. Let me find the link : http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/pr...1scc_scion_tc/
That should put you with your friends untill they get modded. lol

Sway Bars w/ Coilovers Make A VERY Big Difference. I've Looked Around And For Some Decent Coilovers And I've Only Found Tein SS & Tanabe Sustec Pro S-OC. The Teins Had A Stiffer Spring Rate Of 8(f)/10(r) And The Tanabe Had 6(f)/8(r) .. Theres Probably More Aftermarket Coilovers Out There But Thats All I Looked Up. As Far As Sway Bars I've Only Found Hotchkis Sport Sway Bars. Have Some Front And Rear Strut Bars For Some Reinforcement. And I Think It Should Be Pretty Good. I've Rode In A Car With Stiff Suspension And It Feels GREAT !! As Far As Tires I Really Trust Falken Azenis. And If Your Feeling Like A Baller Then Go With Some Pontenza S-03s. Hahah ..

ya ur on the right track...
coilovers is a BIG BIG importance
sways will be a + in cornering too
LSD nobody has one yet
but TIRES!!! super important. i jus recently swapped my tires (for new set and different brand) and powering out of corners now... i dont understeer or lose traction like i use too. (3rd set of tires) so you can get good tires and deal with out LSD for a little while.
and dont forget the CF hood. lightening the car is a big + in mtn and track racing

Phantom Grip is available, I have had one for 7 or 8 months, finally installing it now as been to dang busy before to do it!
Please no bashing of PG unless you have real evidence, not internet gossip, I have gone through that crap with every single online BS story I have ever seen posted. "he said, she said, second cousins uncles brothers sisters neice filled one down to fit a crapy worn out civic differential and it cause the differential to break" That is how every single story ended.
I have talked to one shop that has had issues with them on super high powered, fat sticky tired, more race than street cars. We will not generate that kind of power in a tC that is even driveable so not to worried there, the PG was not designed to do what we being done with it in those cases anyway;)
I had great luck with units I have installed and the one I have owned in a 250WHP, 235/40/17 race tire shod Matrix and I drove that car very hard indeed. The ones I have worked with are still going strong a few years later and they are in boosted cars with alot of miles on them.
Bottom line, a good LSD is available

Yes, Tires are the number one area to improve before all others, besided driver skill;)
An LSD will have marginal benifits on clean dry roads especially, I have driven very agressively in the mountains and seldom needed LSD, just a tiny bit here and there, no big deal, on stock or near stock power.
Do not lower your car very far, you will upset the roll couple so much you will cause far greater loss than you will improve the handling, I have gone into great depths of research, on the tC in this regaurd and proven it on autocross courses.
99.99% of the cars you see slammed handle quite poorly, ride like crap, wear out alot of parts quickly including the chassis which is taking a beating from the excess stresses.

We have been to busy to do much with the suspension yet. Once we finish the LSD install (pouring our own front, rear and drivers side motor mounts today) as well as aluminum flywheel, clutch, etc, etc... Then we will start the turbo buildup, once done with that, we should be pretty much done with the weight distribution so we can put the car on scales finally.
We will then work out the actual center of gravity, measure all the suspension geometry and have the info needed on what needs to be adjusted. Finally we will pull the control arms and start the mods to them, if as major as it appears to be, we just may build new tubular control arms and then we will know what to do with bushings.
There is a method to our madness afterall

Good question, we are not into manf parts but if enough interest and profitable we will give it some consideration
Actually I would probably hire a good fab shop to build them if enough interest and they do as we plan, make the car all that much better

Doesn't matter if you spend a million dollars developing the most advanced suspension system for your tC if can't get it to the gruond with good tires. Sways, strut bars, coilovers, grippy tires and LOTS of tuning and playing around with the settings will get you a pretty well handling car. Its all about the balance.
Absolutely agree!!! That is why our next set of RPF1s will have very sticky race tires on them and we will have LSD to help as well. And why we are trying like crazy to get some dual adjustable coilovers made for our cars.
BUT, I sure wish it was RWD, in fact so much so that after we get all we can out of the car as a FWD we have been researching converting to RWD but since we can just as easily go to AWD(not really easy;) we just may go that route instead. We already know we can do it and at least 95% of what it would take to do so.
I guess our tC would be a bit unique then wouldn't it
