Check your the top of your strut bolts, not the three that connect on top of the strut tower but the one in the middle where there is a little rubber lid you have to pop off and then right there where the bolt is on top with a nut on top. Tighten that one all the way down and then see if that was it. I hope that works out for you. It was my problem for about 4 months and could figure it out until i went to the shop and saw it moving when it was on the lift.

or you could have a blown strut or shock.

Yup...I know my rear ones are gone, cause they make all kinds of clunking noises, when I go over bumps or dips.

I would say your strut is loose.

I have been having the same problemfor about a year. The noise gets worst on the winter, but I have taken it to 4 dealers and they have tighten it, have told me the shocks were not in the right place and moved it and still I hear it worst every time. I just took it last month and they couldnt hear anything. I told them its only the backs and when you go over speed bumps. I'm to the point to buy other lowering springs and change the trd ones.

I too have a loud metallic clunking noise anytime I go over an uneven bump in the road on my rear drivers side. I have hotchkis springs and sway bars and I do not know what the cause is. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I hate driving with this clunking noise. Should I try tightening the bolts, or would it have anything to do with my hotchkis sway bars?

check tie rods
check lock nut on strut

those are the only things that would really make knocking noises.

good thing i found this thread. i hope i can solve the problem like this. i recently hit a curb and scratched up my front lip and left rim but its actually not bad but everytime i drive in my drive way i hear something pop. when i pull into the drive way i make a left and a wide angle because im dropped and my drive way is like a freakin mountain. it used to never do this until i hit that curb. im going to check to see if thats the problem. i hope it is.

well i found out some interesting stuff. i just got back from my friends place since he's a mechanic. the problem was there were too many cars in the way so i couldnt jack up the car and its cold as ice outside but we found out that the car lost about a half of inch steering when going all the way to the left compared to steering all the way to the right and that loud thud noise only happens when applying a left turn at certain speeds and angles or while turning left into a steep direction. Like a steep driveway or a road that leads you into an incline.

sigh*...all because of a stupid curb rash. funny thing though i didnt hit the curb going at a high seed and was around 10-15mph? when i hit the curb thats when i heard a very loud thud sound.

can anyone help me out? =(
