Default For people that had/has popping noise from front right side

Hey guys,

I have noticed that my car (06 tC) make a popping sound from the front right side of the car when I:

1. drive slowly and it goes over small dips or bumps
2. drive slowly and make turns
3. drive slowly and turn into an incline, like a driveway

It sounds like it's coming from the top of the right front strut or the bottom right of the windshield. It sounds like independent dull pops, doesn't sound metallic, but I am no expert in that. It pops like once or twice when I turn into driveways and just once when I go over small dips and bumps.

Having did a few searches, I noticed that there are also people who experience this. Have any of you guys or the dealerships you take you car to found a solution to this?

Thanks,

Mike

I get this on the left side when the chassis has to 'flex' a little bit. Like when i'm taking a turn at 25 onto an incline, the car has to flex a bit and I hear popping....I dunno what it is though...

try tightening the top 3 strut bolts to 39ft/lbs if you have a torque wrench, if not, as tight as you can get it by hand with a standard sized hand-wrench, the maximum torque any normal person can apply by hand with a 6" straight wrench is 45ft/lbs.

I assume that you are talking about the rear strut bolts?

I torqued em when I did my spring install. Do you really think it may need to be retorqued?

SSQ,
Are you on stock suspension?

I was referrencing SSQ's problem, but if the nuts are aluminum (which they are) they should always be retorqued after a given time because they will walk, maybe only a few ft/lbs, maybe more.

The 3 rear top strut bolts should be torqued to 59ft/lbs per service manual.

sounds to me like your sunroof is popping like I've seen before, it has to do with the rails being reseated, stories go that people have taken it into dealerships to have everything torqued down up there and it solved the issue, but I don't know much about the sunroof issues except for the recall where they put a laminate on the back of the glass wind-visor so when it shatters it doesn't rain down shards of glass onto unsuspecting passengers.

Yes, I am on the stock suspension and I did try to tighten with three bolts. It was already on really tight and there's no way I can tighten it any more. I doubt a impact wrench can do any better as I bench 295.

I am pretty sure the noise is from like the bottom of the windshield, but it might be cause by the properities of sound travelling in the cabin.

Well I had a popping sound like you discribed before, but that was after I installed some lowering springs. I found out that I didn't tighten the bolt holding down the spring all the way causing the spring to not compress all the way.
