Default Rear Sway Bar Question...

This probably already been disscussed I tried "search'in"...but couldnt find what I wanted to know....so..Heres my question:

When installing a Rear Sway Bar..what kind of adjusting do you need??...I saw some post saying that you need to adjust it to the right setting in order to take the full advantage of the sway bar...is this correct?????

Or is it better to get it Professionally installed cuz they know what they are doing??

Thanks!!!!!

It's not any real form of adjusting that would require a special knowledge- there are simply two to three different holes (dependant on the bar) for the end link to mount to, for three different levels ranging from "street" to "track." I've got the Progress bar and it's set to 'track,' which means that it's on the innermost holes. The farther out, the less aggressive and less noticable.

sways are probably going to be the most noticeable suspension modification that you can do.

So i hear it's the best bang for the buck that you can definitely feel. I'm just trying to decide between Hotchkis and Progress...

I drove around with the Hotchkis rear only bar on soft settign for a while (even tracked it) and it felt great. The car stays flatter under cornering with no tendency to oversteer, but i was on Falken Azinis RT-615 tires. Im selling the rear bar only if you are interested...check my sig.

How does the TRD sway bar compare to the other brands? I want to go with all TRD parts but I haven't heard much about TRD sway bars.

I second this. I see alot of people disregarding TRD.... Why is this? Is their product no good? What do they make that is as quality as any other after market name, and worth every penny? What do they make that is crap, and that I should stay away from.

I've seen a lot of people on this forum crediting TRD on a lot of their performance parts. Some people have even gone full TRD on their cars. I think the thing with sway bars in particular, people look for the brands that are stiffer and have a larger diameter bar. I know there's a post somewhere on this forum comparing the different brands of sway bars and their stiffness.

I personally just got a Progress rear sway finally, but have yet to put it in. So i can't attest to how it is yet. I was considering Hotchkis also but since they only sell the rear sway bar packaged with the front and i only wanted a rear, i went with Progress to save money.

But i can't wait to put in my Progress sway bar!!..perhaps later today......

Default Sway barz

Hey guys, I'm not a racer and i don't go auto-x-ing, just a daily driver and what i wanna know is, should i get just the rear sway bar or should i get both front and rear? some people say rear is enuff but would it really be beneficial to get both ? can you REALLY feel the difference with or without the front sway?

The front bar only comes with the Hotchkis sway kit. Hotchkis gives you bars that are over 100% stiffer than stock so yes, you will REALLY feel the difference. Is it necessary? If you're only daily driving, the TRD bar, coupled with a lowering set, is plenty.

Personally, I don't believe front swaybars are needed even for the more aggresive auto-x'ers (as i matter of fact I've heard it can actually hurt performance which translates into massive oversteer).

Hotchkis is the stiffest bar (27mm rear; 24mm front) on the market for our tCs (@ this moment), but i've also heard the front bar has/is encountering issues (i.e. rubbing, brackets, etc...) for "some" people.

Progress comes with links & bushings which I must say is something I'd love to have, however its not as thick as hotchkis' (progress = 22mm), but do share the same 3 hole setup.

And finally there's TRD which I myself have. It shares the same diameter with progress (@ 22mm) and also includes bushings, but doesn't have endlinks and that "extra" hole like progress'. Surprisingly, it is the lowest priced out of the three, and offers the least amount of hassle.
To me it seems Hotchkis has compatibility issues, but makes the better bar. Progress has an decent bar but comes with excellent goodies making it even better. And finally TRD, which in essence is the bare bones edition.... I honestly like my sway bar to the point that I think it should be standard on all tCs. So, until somebody comes out with a 27mm+ sway that's free of drama and includes the same goodies as progress, I'll be content with my TRD.

This compatability issue with Hotchkins is due to the front strut bar I presume??? They aren't having complaints with their rear sway bars are they???
