Default spring installation

I think i'm going to purchase a set of Hotchkis springs pretty soon and keep it on stock shocks for now, but i was wondering how much i should expect my local shop to charge me for installation. I've seen around 150 and thats without allignment, is this reasonable? I would do it myself, but i lack the tools and time. And for anybody commenting about the hotchkis springs, please do! thx

150 is just right.... without alignment....

A shop will quote 2 hours labor for springs, so this is about right....

I'd do it for 50.

Anyways.... Hotchkis springs have a good rep... I'm sure you'll like 'em...

Thanks for the reply, what tools are needed, and is this doable by myself? my experience is at short shifter, intake, and axleback... yeah or nah?

You need air tools,a spring compressor (Rentable from Autozone), a large torque wrench, and a breakbar... There are many how-to's online that can step you right through... I did my first one in about 3 1/2 hours....

But... for the work... It's worth about 150 imho.

when you get your car aligned, is it the tires that get aligned? and why do you need to get them aligned after new springs?

Yes, it is the tires (Wheels) that get aligned....

With anything lower than TRD springs, your camber, castor, toe and other "Tweaks" to the suspension can get affected, so you need to have them adjusted.... otherwise, your tires may ride poorly and effect tire wear negatively...

If you want to learn more... check out this little guide...

thanks for the link it really helped.

"On many front-wheel-drive vehicles, camber is not adjustable. If the camber is out on these cars, it indicates that something is worn or bent, possibly from an accident and must be repaired or replaced."

so does that mean the camber isnt adjustable for the front for the tC's and that is why we only have rear end camber links out on the market for the tC?

Thats correct. The TEIN SS+P coilover include camber plates that allow for adjustable front camber but that as of now is the only option and is usually around $1300

you could use camber bolts on the front if you wanted. but they should be able to get it adjusted fine with stock bolts.

Its reccomended but not required. With a conservative drop like th e TRDs, the changes arent as dramatic so it isnt as important. Ideally you should have the car aligned after installing springs but its not a problem if you dont.
