Ok so my friend is in the market for some coilovers for her tC and she wanted to get the Tein Basic Coilovers Kit.

Being I have Tein S-Techs I'm really not that much help plus Im getting H&R Coils here pretty soon

So I wanted to know if anyone has these installed, how long have you had them on, and how you do like the end result of the product?

if your in so-cal my friend is selling his basics for about 5hundred.. they have been used for 5k miles.

he loves them, but is going back to stock.

i love mine, but i may be selling them soon...i'm possibly selling my car

 

i just got mine basics, will be installing them in a week or so. my homework basically shows that this is the cheapest coilover, best bang for a name brand. can't go wrong with that. trust tein and trust the price. if you really care about how it rides that much (i am sure it's not bad), i would probably NOT get these "basics".

 

I'm looking for a used set so hit me up if you wanna sell.

 

well I have the basics on my and I've had them for about a year now. If you don't care about the ride quality then I say get basics since it's rellay stiff and I hear the stiffer the better if you want better cornering. But if your gonna use it for daily driving and care about ride quality I say get other coilovers. The basics make you feel every single bump in the road and to me it's killing me. I was thinking about getting a softer springs from Tein to put on my coilovers. But whatever she chooses would be good.

 

i've had my basics for about 6 months now... and one thing i mainly noticed was the BIG difference in handling, but jus like tc913 said, u do feel EVERY bump and get ready to bottom out in some areas a couple of times

 

That's only true if you slam them as low as they'll go. If you keep'em so you're only lowered 1.5" then you'll be fine. The Tein basics are a great set-up. Handling is much improved over stock, but the increased spring rates do change the driving characteristics. No more understeer—which means if you like to drive fast you'll need to re-learn your cars limits.

 

At different higher heights like 1.5, do you still feel the same ride as if you were at 2.7?

 

mine is lowered to about close to 2 inches at most... i also do some city driving too cuz my school is in the chitown.... but u do feel a big difference in handling.... there comes a sacrafice.. .comfort.. and compared the stock suspension this is NOT even close to being as smooth as it was stock

 

Yes. A completely lowered suspension does not allow all of the components as much room to move since the springs are already partially compressed. Therefore a slammed car will be much harsher over bumps than a slightly lowered car.

Also remember that lower does not always equal better for handling; it might look cool (to some) but I'd being willing to gamble that the tC lowered 1.5" will out handle a 2.7" lowered one. Sure the center of gravity is a bit more lower, but the roll center moves below the car and possibly the street and other parts of the suspension (control arms/A-arms) are not able to do their job correctly.
