Question Tire Poll -Opinion needed

Do you think the Dunlop tires are worth the extra $370+?
I am leaning more towards the Kumho because in addition to the highlighted differences, the warranty review is better and it has a higher speed rating (i could never hit those speeds but still, Why TF not?).

These tires is going on a turbo'd DD car weighting 2900Lbs

Well since you are looking for extreme summer tires. You sir already messed up by not having the Hankook rs3s on your list. The Hankook rs3s out preform every tire on your list and they are cheaper.

Here is the the High performance tires buyers guide that Andy Hollis helped put together. http://www.eurotuner.com/techarticle...ide/index.html

I race with my hankooks every other weekend auto xing. And I daily drive on them. I have a little over 2000 miles on them and over 50 runs and they are in great shape. would be in better shape if I had some camber in the front.

Here is the link to tire rack for the tires. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....el=Ventus+R-S3

I would say the only reason not to get rs3s are because you need tires now and they could be sold out. My size 225/18/40 was sold out for over 6 months before I could get a set. And with Auto x nationals going on soon they may be sold out through august.

That's some good reading. Thanks for the feedback. i put it up next to the other 2 tires on T-Rack and it's on par with the Dunlop with the exception of wet conditions and thread wear. Definitely something worth considering.

The Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110 was recommended on another forum. Its looking like a winner. Has anyone here use this tire before?

Yea there oksih. Rs3s for street tires. Or grab a set of these r comps for just track/auto x use. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....el=Ventus+Z214

Before you start buying tires what kind of motorsports are you into? If its auto x what class you do you plan on running in? I see your turbo so depending on your region you would be in ssm. Now at my local club we can run rcomps in ssm. Now when I ran in indy a month ago there ssm class was ssms. ssm street tire and you got a two second penalty for r comps. If your looking at street tires and your thinking hankooks which you should be RS3s are the only way to go. Dunlops are good. the brigestone re11s are also good kumhos are good. But the rs3s are top dog right now.

I do quite a bit of Autoxx and some track days. but i have a set of Rotas wrapped in Kumho XS for that. These are going to be my everyday spirited driving tires.

I run the SMF class for AutoXX

If these tires are just for daily driving then the v12s should be fine.no need to splurge on dunlops or hankooks.

I think if you looked, you would have seen an entire sub-forum dedicated to not only tires, but wheels also. https://www.scionlife.com/forums/for...lay.php?f=1646 Just saying this would fit in far better there.

I've raced and daily driven the Dunlop Star Specs for about a year.
Based on research by Grassroots Motorsports, the Hankook RS3 was the best in the dry. The Kumho XS was second. The Dunlops were third. The difference was tenths of a second.
In the rain, however, the Kumhos were terrible, the Hankooks suffered a bit, and the Dunlops were the best.
In the past, I've used Bridgestone Re11's in 205-50-15. They were excellent in everything, BUT in 225-45-17 that I run, they are more than $50 more a tire. A lot of people have been abandoning Bridgestones.

The top 5 guys in Chicago Region SCCA Street Touring class:
I'm currently leading with Dunlops
2 guys use Kumhos
1 guy uses Hankooks
The guy in 4th is a surprise- an xB1 on 18" VIP wheels wrapped in Nitto summerish tires.

For every day driving, and racing on the weekend,I would use Dunlop first, Hankook second, Kumho last.
With these tires, do NOT drive them regularly below freezing. I was almost in an accident last winter when they locked up on a stop that should have been no problem.
Use your all-seasons for the winter.

By the way, the xB driver and Feldy were my students this past spring in Chicago Region SCCA's The Learning Curve autocross school.
Both of these guys are great drivers.

Yeah ..
I felt bad when the fender liner popped out on the way home from Learning Curve. There will occasionally be autocross casualties, but you don't want to see things happen on the first time out.
I'm doing all I can to keep from cracking my bumper from nailing too many cones. Race Tape. But I digress.
How about those tires!

I went with the hankooks. Other then feeling a little soft in the turns, they are pretty good

Try increasing your pressures. On the Dunlops, I run 38f & a bit higher in the rear
