TRD Spring/Stock Strut, NOISE
I know that there has been tons of threads started on this subject. And I made sure to read most of them before this post, but none seem to match.
I have recently (3 weeks ago) but on TRD springs myself. (pretty mechanically inclined). Yet just recently I am getting a "whisling noise" from what sounds like the front right strut tower. I happens when driving and going over a dip in the pavement, or speed bumps.
To save you time on the posts, already checked center bolt under rubber cap. All 3 strut bolts and both bottom bolts.
Is it possible that the strut might need some grease on it. That is what sound I would relate it to, and if so can this be the fix?

When you say "whistling" while going over bumps, do you mean something whistles as the suspension is compressed or as it's rebounding? Either way it would be the damper and it shouldn't make any noises that are audible in the cabin unless the valves are blown out.
Someone want to confirm this?

Maybe squeeking is a better verbal discription of the sound. And it happends on both compression and retract.
Hope this better helps the description and is can be heard withing the cabin.

Took the car to the local Toyota dealership. I took one of the techs on a test drive so he could hear the noise personally. I was able to duplicate the noise. After getting it up on a lift they could not find out what the problem was. IE all bolts are the right torque, and parts in the right place etc.
So a call was placed to the local Toyota rep and the TRD springs and the stock shocks are being replaced under warranty, due to "mechanical malfunction." I should have all new parts before the end of next week. This should take care of the noise, if not then I am totally confused. i will continue to post after the replaced parts are installed.

same noise happened to me when i installed my TRD springs a month ago at a local shop. He couldn't find out what was wrong because everything was correctly installed. So , he just took that one side apart and and reassemble the springs back into the struts and it worked. No more weird noises.
Just finally got my car repaired. TMG had the springs on back order, or at least that is what the dealership said. But now I am confused and need help from my fellow scionlife members.
The orginal springs I got where from mcgeorge and they where white, the new springs that where just replaced are red....???
Did i get screwed or is TRD changing the springs to red now with the new orders? Help on this.
Thanks

Black is Stock. As for red, I have done alot of searching and to no avail. They should be white. I got the part number and printed out the invoice and went back to toyota. They are going to order new parts, (this time hopefully white) and do another swap. This is the third time that my springs have been replaced. I am starting to get nervious that it might not go back together this time. Hope all goes well.
