trd sway bar vs. springs
hey guys just want to see what ur opinion is??? i am debating on which one to do first. i am going to do both the rear trd sway and the trd springs this summer but i gotta do one and then wait till the end of the summer to do the other mod. which one would u guys do first im kinda leaning towards the rear sway first cause from what i read u notice the improvement in ride right away. With both i bet it’s really a noticeable change in cornering and handling. just looking for ur suggestion, and also im gonna run the stock struts with the trd springs will that be a big difference in the quality of the ride with trd springs and oem struts.
thanks guys
thanks guys
im new to the lowering springs but i wanted to go with TRD because from what i read they are a slight drop which i want, but im looking for better cornering and performance which i would not get going any lower correct????
You can get performance from either one... the most benefit will probably come from the rear sway... but springs are a good idea too. They can compliment each other pretty well.
But if you actually want performance from the springs, don't bother going any lower than like 1.5". So honestly, TRD would be a good choice. Or H&R Sport. Or maybe even Tein H-Techs... but I'd say one of the other two before the latter.
As for the sway, the TRD is a good one if you're just going to be using this as a daily driver. If you're going to be driving a bit more aggressively, maybe consider the Progress - more adjustable and comes with new endlinks.
You'll be fine on OEM struts with the TRD springs... right MIGHT be a bit more rough, but that's more because of the springs, and less to do with the struts.

Eh... unless you're doing some serious racing (autox, track, etc) there's no point. Even Dan Gardner (like the one, pro/semi-pro tC road racer) only runs a rear bar. So if just a rear is good enough for him... it's good enough for a daily driver too...
k cool so from what i gather i should go with the TRD rear sway bar first then pick up the springs at the end of the summer then i will have my self a track car. lol yea right.
thanks guys i really appreciate the suggestions and advice

if youre going progress though and youplan on having a really stiff rear, wouldn't you want to at least do something to the front to prevent oversteer??
just my opinion, I've been debating on the best set-up as well

its always good to do things of this nature in pairs. Get the springs and maybe your rear sway bar and rear strut bar - that way you see a change in the way the car drives instead of just very minor changes when you do one at a time. The springs are just for looks. I have the trd springs and im glad i did not go lower cause 1.3" around is enough for me.

One of the things you might see from someone with a Hotchkis set is that they are only running the rear bar (b/c the front is a total PITA to install) - I did this for a while as well. But thing is the two bars are designed and tested to work with each other. So in that case you can be creating a dangerous driving situation where you could experience a bit of "snap oversteer." So you'd definitely want to install the front one with the set.
So back to just the rear... theoretically it would be designed to work perfectly with the OEM front bar, no matter the setting.
I'd suggest doing the springs before the rear sway, if you can't do both at once. I drove mine for about a year with the springs before adding the rear sway. The springs will help reduce roll like the sway does, they'll also improve performance by lowering the car's center of gravity, while making it look better too. The rear sway has to work a lot harder controlling lean when the car is at stock height, another reason I say springs first.
I did springs first and loved the stance. After I got the rear sway, I wished I did them in reverse. trd won't offer much of an appearance difference, so you'd notice a much bigger bang for your buck with the rear sway. I have the rear sway and its awesome...
