TRD vs Koni vs Tokico shocks+lowering springs = HELP!
so here is the deal...
i have Hotchkis springs (1.9 drop all around) and i need new shocks.
i didnt know anything about Konis.. and i just realized u need to cut/modify your old shocks and make them as a new housing for the Konis...
Konis is around $629
Tokicos is around $369
TRDs is around $459
i dont want do deal with the installation or cutting/modifyng, so i would ask someone to do it.... and that would be like $300 and now im already around 1 grand.. so i could just buy a tein basic coilover setup.. sell my hotchkis... so why would i go with the frikkin' Konis?
Tokico has a REALLY nice price.. i would buy it BUT!! i just spoke to TRD and Tokico and both company said : they shocks are designed to go with a 1.5 drop lowering springs... so.. my hotchkis (almost 2 inch drop) are too low for the shocks so i would hit the bumpstops.
wich is not good....
tokico said something.. i didnt really understand it to be honest... the guy said i could cut half an inch down off my bumpstops then i would be good..
but im not sure if i 'stood exactly....
what do u think?

interested in getting an answer as well since im on the market for shocks and hotchkis springs, mine main concern was if u also needed to cut the tokico shocks to fit them in since im leaning to get those...
u dont need to modify the tokico shocks!!!
they are just like the TRD shockers.. = "easy install"
if your lowering springs is not lower your car more than 1.5 inch then you are good to go!!! but my hotchkis has a ~2 inch drops.. and trd, tokico said i would hit the bumpstops... that why i dont know what to do. 2 inch drop is perfect for me..
my shocks are blown.. and its not a big problem when im riding my car alone.. but if i put another 1 ppl next to me and 2 ppl in the back.. then its horrible.........
and i dont know if it would help if i cut off half an inch off my bumpstups.. even if i wont hit the bumpstops that many times.. but if i do then it would feel harder, worst... right? ( because the bumpstops are smaller)

how long did u ride on stock springs?
to my knowledge trd shocks were desing for trd shocks 1.25 drop. and others who run those with hotchkis say they run good... so if tokico are made for 1.5 drop they should work even better right?

now my car is higher than when i bought it.. and i still like it... i have blown shocks since that... over a year.. but i bought the hotchkis springs a few months ago... (3?)
what? your stock springs were cut?
anyway, if your struts are already blown, might as well get the konis. If it's really gonna cost that much, get the others. There are guys on hotchkis and trds with no issues.
Since you apparently did not install your hothchkis springs, you may not realize that they came with shorter polyeurethane bumpstops which are about half the height of the stock bumpstops, so you should be fine.
In fact, tein s-techs and even h-techs (what is that, like a 1.5 drop?) require you to cut the stock bump stops almost in half, so your already past that hurdle. just get the tokicos and tell us how they are.
Where can you get those, anyway?

TRD struts will be fine with Hotchkis spring. I've been riding on them for around 20,000mi with numerous autocrosses, a track day, highway, and city driving.
Don't know anything about the Tokicos.

no they are not adjustable... if u are a big raceboy.. go with coilovers...Konis are too expensive and its funny how much you have to modify to install the first shocks... konis? no thanks!!!
im gonna use it for everyday driving... but i think it would be good for a trackday 2... its better than my blown shocks anyay... right?:D
