When is it best for a tune up for our cars. for example changeing the tranmission oil, spark plugs etc. My car is at 38,000 miles and I was wondering if it is that time for a tune up.

my guess is, you're running iridium plugs (correct me people if i'm wrong) so those are good to 100K.. auto tranny? unsure, but on manual i change tranny oil every 10K. might as well and it's easier than an engine oil change..

what does your manual say ?

 

I only glanced at the 2AZ specs on this sort of stuff once, here's what I remember:

Oil Change (recommended 5k miles, even though I do every 4k)
Trans (I have a std. so I would think auto is like flush every 12k)
coolant (factory says 100k, I would do it around 60k)
Power Steering (only if low or leak, service)
A/C (if you have probs)
Valve lash clearances (I believe are self-adjusting...if not have them re-checked if you headwork done, but should be good for 100k it not 120k miles)
And..
Chk your serpentine every oil change
Timing I believe is Chain...so have timing checked at like 120-150k miles...most chains will only stretch about a degree or two by 150k miles

 

I forgot:
Air filter --- chk @ oil changes
Fuel filter -- used to say ever 12k miles, with today's fuel...you could easily get away with 50k miles
Zerk fittings (I dont even think the tie-rod ends have them on the tC...anyhow lube jobs should be done every 5k with the oil changes)

And dont forget to check your muffler-bearings and blinker-fluid often

 

every 10k on a manual? Wow...call me But usually the service times on a manual are ALOT less often then an auto.
I was planning on servicing my manual trans. around 20k miles and swapping to Mobil1 Synthetic like I did in my Escort.

Man every 10k...maybe I'm just really easy on my gears.

 

it's what, 4bucks for a quart of mobil 1? why NOT change it out? it comes out dirty anyway, can't hurt.

and yeah, the xA/b transmission sucks.. gear grinds all the time even when you baby it, so all that metal should leave the transmission on a regular basis lol
