what do u call those small fist looking things u wedge in between the coils of a spring to make them stiffer or lift it a bit

No, bumpstops go around the shaft at the top of your struts to keep them from bottoming out.

so lets say i want my rear to be a bit higher, would these work for that? i have never heard of these.

 

yeah, it would work for front or rear. all they do is prevent the spring from compressing as much basically raising the car a little.

 

Yes, that'd work, but it's not the "proper" way to fix that. The problem is, using these things can change both the effective spring rate, as well as the way the spring behaves throughout it's range of travel. They were originally made for situations where people need to carry a heavy load, with so much weight that the suspension is so compressed they have interference, like when you overload the bed in a pickup truck. They're fine for a temporary fix in that situation, but I'd strongly recommend against using them on a tC.
