Default 215/45/17 vs 215/40/17....?

Hi guys,

I'm considering a great deal offered to me for some Goodyear Eagle F1 tires. The tires on my tC now are the standard 215/45/17. The Goodyear Eagles are 215/40/17. Is there a big difference at all in the size difference? Will I feel a noticable ride difference in terms of road harshness with 40s instead of 45s?

Thanks.

No, but why would you want a smaller tire? I know the price is right but 17" tires are super cheap everywhere wait till you need tires then go with a 215/45/17.

I sort of already do. I bought the car used and it has Capitol tires on it. While they look ok, they are awful on a wet road. I slide easily. The Goodyears are $300. Normally, those go for $158 a tire. A 215/40 is only about 10 mm smaller than a 215/45, no?

www.1010tires.com is the best place to compare tire sizes. Anything within 3% will be ok. If you are staying stock size better tires can be found for about the same maybe a little less. Check around goodyear is just a name the quality isnt there anymore.

You'll lower the car by .8", and throw the speedo off by 3.4%; when it reads 60, you're actually doing 57.9. Gas mileage will likely drop a bit (if even 1mpg) but launching should be slightly better (reduced rotating mass and shorter rollout).

Cheap way to lower the car, at any rate.
