Has anyone rolled their tC's rear quarter panels/fenders? I was looking at the tC's rear quarter panel lip and noticed it has a step design to it. I'm concerned it'll complicate matters with this step lip. I've rolled fenders on my previous cars (240SX and GTI) using the fender roller, baseball bat, and rubber mallot methods. So before I pick my weapon of choice, I'm looking for feedback from others who've done this to their tC.

A experienced and reputable wheel shop recommended they cut/grind the fender lip since the sheet metal on Japanese cars are so flimsy. 240SX owners have seen their quarter panels buckle from the pressure of fender rolling (not to mention the cracking paint).

 

Im in the same boat as you are. Been lookin for someone to do that but i hear horrors of cuttin and grindin. Some say if you do that rust will come out and spread through the fenders. usin a bat or a 2 x 4 to role or push the lip will cause the paint to crack. Thus comes rusty. Dont know what to do. Guess take a chance and just do it. If it works great, If it dont work.... modd it I guess....

 

cant belive nobody has tried this yet. well if anybody know's share your experance.

 

my best advice is get the right size wheels and appreciate the 9.5 wide fitment

 

i was just planin to have a body shop trim the fenders, and just have a WBK cover up the ugliness.
HOW else am i supposed to fit 18x9ers in there?!?

 

I did mine, no issues what so ever, ive got some WIDE (9.5) wheels in the back. I have a roller if any one wants to buy it.

 

just heat up your paint a little with a heat gun so it doesnt crack the paint when you do it....

the wheels are 18x8.5 with 225/40/18 all around. the tires are stretched. i could put a 235 or 245, but I'm concerned about rubbing. i test mounted then and they sit flush with the body. offset is 30 in front, 20 in rear. I'm gonna need negative camber lol.

I got my rear quarter panels rolled today at a shop (heat gun and fender roller method). It turns out the step lip on the rear qtr panel lip is not metal. Its a hard foam type trim. When the metal was heated and rolled, the foam trim just fell off. Because Scion paints the car after the foam is installed, there is bare/unpainted metal when that foam is removed. So in that regard, the paint will chip on the lip. Luckily its way inside and hard to see. I just put a whole lot of touch up paint and clear coat to cover it up. You cant see it at all once its rolled.

I also test fitted the rear wheel. I'm waiting for hubcentric rings from Tirerack. The wheel mounts flush. Since the tire is stretched, I can mount the 5mm spacer if I feel crazy.

cracked paint or not, your car just became one of my faves on SL. those rims are sick as hell. just curious though, where'd you get em with that offset and 5x100? they look new but i find that unlikely since SSR is outta commission.

 

how did your paint crack!! did you not heat the paint with a heat gun???? Mine never cracked at all, all i had was a little rubber foam fall off.
