Autocross tires/rims questions
Hey I am going to be autocrossing pretty soon here and I was looking to get some new treads but have a few questions.
1-What do the stock wheels weigh?
2-What is the largest tire that can fit on the S-Tech drop with stock wheels? ( keep in mind this is for the track so the cornering will be hard and the body will roll.
3-What is a great autocross tire? Concerned but not very concerned about tread wear
4-What do standard 16" steelies generally cost?
5-What do those weigh about?
Thanks for any help!

Stock wheels: ~22 lbs. Not bad for OEM.
Tires? A few choices. Some people like the Falkens... I think there are couple Khumos that are OK. I'm putting on a set of BFGs this weekend. g-Force TA KDW2. Supposed to have excellent wet AND dry traction.

The falken rt-615 and the BFG KDW are the only two I would consider for autox use if you are limited to a "street tire" class. They are both the prefered tire at the national level compitetions.
Wider is better if it fits. Go for the biggest contact patch you can. If you stay with the stock wheel size (17X7) go with a 225 series tire. If the budget allows and you want to be as competitive as possible find the lightest 17X8 you can and squeeze a 245 series on there. Then get an alignment that is autox friendly but so much that it hurts streetablily.
You should be able to find 17" wheels that weight 13.5 - 16 lbs pretty easy. I ended up buying the Motegi Track_Lite. It weighs in at around 14lbs.
This is my 1st season in the tC and after 3 events I'm having a lot more fun in the tC than any other car I've raced over the last 5-6 seasons. As of right now it looks like it will be a good car for HS.

Do you think a 17x7 (stock wheel) 225 series will rub with the STech drop? what about 235?
DOES WHEEL WEIGHT MAKE A NOTICABLE DIFFERENCE IN DRIVEABILITY ON THE TRACK?
(I'm not yelling, that is just the most important part of my post!)

it helps improve your acceleration, maybe not noticeable. and helps your steering. very noticeable.

Now, It's the 615s, the Yoko Advan Neovas, or the Hankook Ventus R-S2 Z212. The TA/KDs and Kumho MXs were good, but others have come and surpassed them because the the KDs and MXs are only good under one condition... hot. If it's cool, if it's the slightest bit wet, they're useless.

Go with the Falkens. They work very well in the wet as a daily driver tire as well...suprisingly quet too.
