Yesterday I curbed my front right wheel. It looks almost like the original poster. Arrrgh! I am ____ed. I will try to pick some of this paint up and do my own fix. So ____ed.
Is it a good idea to sand the area too? If so how? I have never done anything like this before

I curbed 3 of my rims after having my car for 6 months. I grew up on a farm and my home town had a population of 700 (no stoplights in the town), so I never had to worry about parallel parking. Then I moved to the big city, buy a nice car, and proceed to rash my rims.

When I finally got sick of looking at the rash, I went to an O'Reilly's and had them color match paint exactly to my rims. Then, I went home and used 600-1500 grit sandpaper to sand down the rash and get rid of any ridges and burrs. I cleaned it really well with some alcohol and let it dry. I used the touch up paint and went over the rash with a light layer of paint. I had to do this a couple of times to get it built up to where it looked decent.

After I got it painted, I went over it again with some 1500-2000 grit sandpaper wrapped around an eraser to make sure the new paint was smooth compared to the rest of the wheel. At this point, it looked like I had screwed up the wheel because everything I had just sanded was very hazy and looked scratched from the sanding. The way I fixed it was I wiped up all of the dust from the sanding and put a thin layer of clear coat over it. Now, you can barely tell there was any rash at all on the rims.

I think it is a custom color. You have to go somewhere and get it color matched in order to get it to match. I tried looking last fall and there is no off the shelf paint that matched perfectly. I got a good sized bottle of the exact color that was color matched from O'Reilly's. It even has the same deep reflection.

Eh, i tried this with my rs1's... either they changed the shade of the black night metallic or something because it doesn't look nearly as flush as the original poster describes. Does anyone know how well something from O'Reilly's would match?

I got my color matched at O'Reilly's and it is pretty close. You can't tell unless you look really close.

They wouldn't match it at the O'Reilly's nearest to me. Did they physically mix paint for you, or do you have a special color touch-up paint from that particular aisle?

How much did it cost your Dad to repair your wheels?

Yea, they mixed the paint for me there. They had to mix colors to get it correct as well as adding some glittery looking powder to get the shine right. Like I said, it is almost dead on.

So it looks like Scion made two different shades of RS1 wheel. The dark ones that I see posted here, and a lighter one that's in between the standard upgrade wheel and this gunmetal black color. At Exposed this year I saw both varieties on RS1's.

I'm thinking that the Pirelli's come on the darker ones, and the Yokohama's come on the lighter ones. I'm not certain about this though...

Both have the enkei center cap, and both are darker than the standard Scion upgrade...

My rs1 came with yoko's and they are not nearly as dark as the original pic for the thread, but my sister definetly messed up one of my wheels in an attempt to move my car out of the driveway and into the street... i knew i should have just put down the ps3 controller and done it myself.

It sure would make it nice if the dealer carried all the touch ups (spray and brush) for Scion/Toyota wheels like other manufacturers do.
