Default Help, car shakes at 75-80mph...

aiiight hope this goes here, JUST bought HP evo's 18x8's ridin on 225/40/18's....anyhow got them balanced on a road course machine twice now....they drive super smooth form 0-75mph but once i hit 75 my steering wheel shakes violently. Is there anything other than my wheels which i am assured are balanced near perfection that could be making my car shake at higher speeds????

And the wheels look beautiful, i love them, got them cheap at wheelguyz.com

Thanks, any advice, or suggestions or anyone even in the local Fort Walton/Destin, P-cola area that could look at them please PM me or comment in this thread!!!!! I have to go to Dallas this month and want to take my baby(aka the Car) to show her off!

Thanks,

tC GetOnMyLevel

Sounds like you need hub-centric rings. Did they include any with your purchase?

BTW-Happy Birthday!

Did you check for uneven wear on the tire...could be that, could be the lugs are not all tight, could have got faulty tires...lots of things. Check with a mechanic/dealer

Could be the hub rings. Are you hearing any odd tire/road noise?

well even if the wheels are balanced, u should still check to see if ur aligned, or if any of the screws, bolts, nuts, etc. on ur suspension is loose or anything

i had a buddy come in complaining about a violent vibration upon 75mph just like you, i went on a test drive with him in his tc and sure enough it vibrated like a ****. I pulled it into my stall and lifted it to find that two brand new falken tires he bought with his new wheels had nasty bubbles in the sidewall, i warned him that sooner or later they would fail and to go back to where he bought them but he kept driving them. A week later he had a tire blow out on him on the freeway. check your tires if you are sure they are balanced properly. Get them road force balanced if the shop has a machine capable of this.

my car would vibrate at 63-65 and if i get 70 it'll stop vibrating -_- but i think i fixed the problem because i got a new set of tires and got 'em balanced. i'll be getting my car alignment soon too because i would always here this whistle when i brake and its not my brakes that are wrong i had a shop check 'em.

Default Hb rings are your answer!!

99 times out of a 100 the wheels are shaking because the shop didn't include hubrings with your wheel and tire package. that's why I always include the rings when I sell wheels and tires...

What you are going to need to know is this... what is the Centerbore of your wheel? Most companies run a 67mm or 73mm centerbore... not sure..just call the manufacturer of the wheels and ask them... I believe the hub on the Scion TC is 54.1 just like most Toyotas out there.

True like everyone else kept saying, get the car on the lift and check your tires for bubbles..most likely you aren't going to find anything..but better to be safe then sorry.

Oh yeah..a lot of wheel manufacturers will sell centering rings to the customer directly...they should be 14 dollars or less for a set if they are plastic...that's on the high side to..don't let people tell you they are like 30 bucks or something like that.

yeah i got taken on that one pretty bad actually. i just followed the link posted a couple up and went ahead and bought them in haste, spent around 50 bucks after taxes. oh well live and learn. Installed them yesterday. And i made it to dallas. They still shake a little at 80 but not near as bad as they did prior to having hubcentric rings. So maybe back to the drawing board....might just sell them because it doesn not feel safe to me, and dont put 18x8's on your car if you have H-techs!!!!!!!!! They rub on every bump and on the mean streets of 20 West and 35E North wow....scary to wait and see how bad of a bump will make my tire pop on the street.....Learn from me guys...
