Default New Tires Already?

I took my car into the dealership for a FREE brake inspection. My car is an 08 tC and has 20K miles on it. I have only had the car a year, and it seems way to soon for them to be replaced. They arent bald or anything. He said something about the tires not lasting long because they are Z rated which is understandable compared to all season or winter tires. So I guess my question is has anyone here had this experience or had the suggestion to replace the tires after a year of use and 20k miles? Or does it appear that this guy is trying to rip me off? I am going to get a second opinion from a buddy of mine, but just wanted to check with the people here first. Oh, and these are the factory Yokohama tires that came with the car in case that matters.

I got 17k out of my 05 Yoko's. So far I only have about 4k on my Turanza's, I'm expecting them to last me for a good 3 years, since they're my transition wheels. I only use them when it's too cold for my 18's and not cold enough for my snow tires.

Just look for some all-season tires with a good treadware rating if you want something to last a bit longer.

Which Yoko's are they? My 08 came with Bridgestone Turanza tires. My 05 came with the Yoko's and they sucked lol.

Yes, ripoff. If they're not worn out, why should you replace them now? Replace them when you need to, not just because someone who sells tires says you should. Caveat emptor!

Yes, the stock Yokos suk bad, mine are completely bald, yet have less than 14k miles. I did push their handling for all they're worth, but still feel they should've lasted longer, especially since the performance is far less than many cheaper tires. So in a way I'm glad it's time for a new set, but I sure wouldn't spend the money to replace tires until the wear indicator bars are wearing down.

Same. My tc when I got it had 36k on it with the stock bridgestones and they had like 20% left. Needed replaced but still driveable.

Also I'll second the notion of doing some research and getting a high treadwear tire. I got Azenis' thinking I would enjoy the handling more, which I do, but I got 4k miles on them and their already at about 65-70% front and 80% rear. 200 tread wear rating I believe.

Get a tire that has decent handling yet good wear. Kumho Ecsta's I hear are pretty good.

Yep even with rotation front to rear every 5000miles you wont get to much farther than 20000 on a set of z rated tires. My falken 512s have about 30000 on them and although they are still great in dry weather they are scarey in the rain.

Dumb question but where you rotating your tires every 5000 miles? I do agree tho that the stock tires suck real bad.
