New wheel and tire package, Konig, tein, and nitto PICS
Without further ado, here is my new wheel and tire package. Konig Crosshairs 18x8 35mm offset, wrapped in Nitto Neo-gens 235/40/18 dropped on Tein H-techs. half finger front, 1 finger back space in wheel wells. Rides great, the teins are good for daily driving/looks but there seem to be a lot of body roll still when I autoX. The neo-gens have great wet traction for summer tires(I also have a set of Dunlop winter tires). All in all I like the package a lot. Now I that I can see my calipers I want to paint them, but I don't know what color. Bronze maybe? I'd rather be subtle than shout "Hey look I painted my stock calipers BRIGHT RED so you think they are an aftermarket performance part."

Bronze does not scream, bronze uses its indoor voice. As does silver. Red is the spastic stepchild who wont stop screaming for attention. ;)
Is it even worth doing if I plan on buying new brakes/rotors all together? Does anyone have a link to a DIY paint your calipers thread?

I was thinking about getting the crosshairs. I went to america tires and saw their weight! 29lbs a rim.. wtf?
I think they look sweet on a black tc, however, do you experience a large performance downgrade in acceleration and handling? I was ready to buy them until I saw the weight of the wheels.
My other choice would be tenzo dc-6 black. I cant decide.
also how much do the tien h springs drop the car?
Im currently on a trd drop and was wondering how much of a gap I would have with those. trd drops about 1.25"
also do you experience any rubbing? and how far out do you tires extend outside the fender?
also do you know what the difference is between the 7.5 and 8 width crosshairs? is it just the lip of the rim?

Honestly I can't say weather or not the rims alone affect performance because I got new tires with them as well which gave me a huge gain in performance. I can't imagine that you would be able to tell the difference without going to a track and driving at 9/10ths the of the limit.
The tein H-techs drop 1.9 front and 1.5 rear. With 35 thickness tires I have a half finger front and 1 finger in the rear. Just perfect.
There is no rubbing, and if there is discount tire (only place who can order konigs from the dealer, also by far the cheapest price on them) will replace them for free. They don't extent past the fenders of the car, they are pretty flush.
I believe the lip size is the same on the 7.5 or 8. If you do buy the crosshairs, and you do go through discount tire, you will get the 18x8, not 7.5 because the 7.5's are out of production. No biggie, wider rim, wider tire, more rubber on the road. Fitment is not an issue with the wider rim.
The only thing that went wrong was the fact that I had metallic valve stem covers on my stock wheels and one of them fused onto the valve stem because of the current running through from the tire pressure sensor (at least thats how discount tire explained it to me). So yeah, if you have an 07, make sure you're using plastic valve stem covers or you could burn out one or more of your sensors.

thanks for the pics,
I just got back from americas tires and decided to go with the tenzo dc-6.
it was a tough decision, I had a friend of mine come along with me to check out the wheels and after dicussing the wheels with the sales guy, he told me the crosshairs were brighter than the stock rims in person.
so I decided to go with black. I have not seen one of these wheels in person yet, (dc-6) because frankly its a tough wheel to find I suppose. and via search function "absolutely no one has this rim" on their tc. So Ill be the first guinea pig :D
I went with cheap 711 kumho tires, the guy offered me the ast at discount tires for the same price, but I dont know which tire is better?

18" and kumho 711s
he offered me asts instead, the second time I went back, and decided to keep the 711s.
however after reading the reviews, it looks like asts were the better tires?

those were the wheels I chose, they seemed to be backordered so I have to wait a couple of weeks.
I went to dicount tires because they offered me financing and no interest, otherwise, I wouldve just gone with an etailer and have them ship in a few days.
at least I can see the tires in person rather than blind buy them on the internet. The sales guy told me that I can check them out in person when they come in to see if I like how they look.
im kind of happy with the choice. both rims look good, but I wanted to keep the clean minimalist look. My first set of rims I ordered, were to small and busy look. these should be a nice upgrade. I kind of like the polished lip, only if they are thin and not fat with black spokes.
polished lip black rims look hot on stealth tc's. at night, it looks like the car is floating on just circles. only down side is that I see the black rim/polished lip combo on every other car.
However I have yet to ever see anyone on the streets with the crosshairs.
I caught a civic with konig unkowns today however.

meh, i saw a caddilac etc with unkowns yesterday. looked ____ty, i think they were 17".
anyway, can you elaborate on the size of the wheel/tire other than just 18". whats the width of the wheel, and the width/thickness of tire?
Those rims are cool but at first glance they look like half the other black rims in the wheel/tire thread

Yea I see black rims polished lip everywhere. but they look so nice :D
I couldve gotten the one with a red lip, but than Im not a racer, so I saw no point, in posing as one.
not sure about the tires, the ones they quoted me were kumho 711s. Theyre cheap, but I cant afford to spend another $400 on top of what I was spending to upgrade the tires. I figure Id ride them out until my wallet heals. only major complaint I read about them are that they have short tread life. About a year. But I dont race or drift or anything and never peel out. I just use it as a daily driver so they should last me a bit.
the rims are 18 x 8 I think? I was also considering gold, but IMO it would probably stand out too much. The thing I like about the crosshairs is that they have a luxury look to them.
In regards to the unknowns, at first I thought they were ugly, but the look kind of grew on me, and I think the unknowns look pretty good. Too sporty/flashy for my tastes however. but they look very nice when they are spinning.
the black rim polished lip look is indeed played out. but I dont mind, since it still looks nice IMO. As mentioned earlier, black car with black rims and polished lip look bad ___ at night, looks like the cars rolling on silver halos and no tires.
