Default Opinion need for Jaz rims/tire combo

My first choice of rims since getting my tc about 3 years ago has been the axis spider. but sadly axis doesnt make them anymore. I have search high and dry for those. Luckily, this Jaz makes the same rims which I am considering buying since I love the sytle.

anyways here is the rims http://www.wheelsnext.com/default.cf...lor=HYPERBLACK

they will be 18x8 offset 40. and going with the combo it will come with 225/40/18. After talking to the representative from wheels next, this combo comes with Nankang NS-II.

I am currently researching on what good tires are supose to be. but for some reason, I dont think Nankang NS-II are good enough.
from reading various threads, most people seem to recommend Toyo Proxes. I also saw Hankook ventus sport k104 being thrown around as well.

Now, do you think.
1) I should stick with the Nankang NS-II that comes with the package.
2) Get Toyo Proxes 4 or Hankook
3) Follow your tire suggestion. am looking for something much more than a summer tire
4) I should get wider tires (235/40/18 ) . keep the fronts 225 and the rear 235? is this a good idea at all?

let me know what your think. thanks

So do you want a performance tire? Or an all season?

I had Continental ContiExtremeContact on for this past winter (though I took them off to put my KDWs back on this spring) and they were a great tire. They're listed on TireRack and "Ultra High Performance All Season" and were definitely affordable (got them for $90 each).

use it for what you need it for really. you want an all around good tire or a high performance tire? shop wisely and look around.

To answer your ?s...

1. Depends on how much extra $$$ the Proxes are. $15-20 per tire extra ain't too shabby.
2. If I had to choose between the 2, I would definitely goes with Toyos.
3. Again, it all depends on how much $$$ you want to shell out. I have the Pirelli PZero Neros and those are quiet tires (compared to my Falkens.) and have a good tread life.
4. I would stick with 225s all the way around. Do you really want to spend extra $$$ for a wider tire? Plus, you won't be able to rotate the tires either because of the size differential.

Hyper black will look real nice on your NB tC!!

Now are the Toyo Proxes 4 performance or all season tires. I am looking for tires that can perform very well in dry and wet conditions as well as have the ability to handle a bit of snow. I just dont want something that I can only use in the summer.

its amazing that after looking at all the rim designs for the past 2 years , my first option sticks out the most. I saw a pic of it on a tc. i believe 19"s and my jaw dropped

I am still waiting for response for the sales rep about how much extra it will run me. I am willing to shell out more $$$ for the right tires.

Now, will 225s be better than 235s all the way around?

Thanks for the link. Those reviews are exactly what am looking for in tires.

Now, my other question am dying to get an answer on.
Is it better/worse to wider tires (235) versus narrower (225). I like wider look. But would I get more benefit going with 235? all of this is assuming 235 will fit on the 18x8.

thanks

the falken 452's and the kumho spt's aren't bad choices either. you might want to look into those.

I have Hankook ventus v4 es h105 in 235/40/18. They are all season performance tires with a treadwear rating of 420. They are my favorite tire I have owned.

Do you have 18x8 with these tires. also are there any difference running 235s over what you had previously. that tire really has a good treadwear rating

I have 18x7.5 with a TRD drop. No rubbing at all.

I previously had Toyo Proxes 4 in 225/40/18 for about 6 months until I sold those wheels/tires (same size, 18x7.5). I notice these are quieter and absorb bumps better, and haven't so far noticed any drop in performance. I looked for the highest treadwear rating tire in all-season, since I run these tires year long.

No problem. Hankook has always been one of my favorites, I even have them on my Supra (a different model, not all-seasons).

I had Nankang-II tires on my old Civic. They were all-season, but two of the tires had to be replaced. My car pulled severly to the right, and after numerous alignments by the tire shop, they found that the steel belts had shifted in two of the tires and had to be replaced after like 5000 miles. They are really low cost as I recall, but I didn't like them at all. They were also really loud on the highways.

though i have no experience it tires, I had a feeling that the Nankang were no good. The fact that the tires were only $250 if I got the rims alone, was red flag.
