Default Possible Powder coating costs and questions,

I am considering powder coating my rims since I can't really afford to purchase the rims I want. Basically i'm just wondering avg. prices..or your personal costs if possible. I know I can get powder coated black and gunmetal..what other colors are possible? I have an FM and was looking for Gold or a copper tone...or something in between? post pics if you also have this done..would like to see how some results look. Thanks In Advance

Most every color you can imagine is possible in powder, including pearl and metallic.

well when I wanted to get my stock rims powdercoated black I got quoted about 50-55 a wheel.

and Ive heard people getting charged about the same $10 + or -

but honestly for me I wouldnt pay more that 60 a wheel
for all 4 thats 240 plus tax.. might as well save up for more for some better rims

paint them yourself. wheel paint + clear makes them look very good and will cost you a total of about $20

Hmmm...this sounds like something I would rather do. Any reccomendations on paint brands? I am also going to do a search to see if anyone did a DIY about this...if anyone knows the link or from another site...link would be appreciated.

use search because that's how i found out about it the first time. i didn't paint them yet but bought some dupli color wheel paint and clear coat from pep boys/autozone. all you need to do is sand down the wheels and paint/clear them. a couple coats of both. i've actually had friends who were too lazy to sand and just painted them and it worked out fine, but if you want the paint to stick, then you'll want to sand. i bought some sandpaper from autozone as well, i think 240 grit, but you may want higher, not sure though.

awesome...to sand I was condsidering using my dremel for the tough spots..but i don't know if using the dremel would take the sanding overboard...well hopefully I can locate all the supplies needed, and try to plan a date to do this. If I get around to it.. I'll post pics and all that good stuff.

yeah I painted them myself..but rest asure you should do it right the first time so u wont have to touch it up later....

I used the regular high temp paint for the rims by duplicolor

heres what I did....

clean the rims real good. and start sanding down. I used 500-1000 grit paper to start off then I went to 1000-1500 grti paper.

tape the tires off and use a primer to start it off
do about 2 coats or so

then start praying away. I did 3 coats, but make sure the previous coat is pretty dry b4 u apply the next one

then for some extra protection I used a clearcoat...I sprayed on 2 coats and BAMMMM ur done

again you dont have to do these steps but this is what I did. But they did last long and looked good
