pros and cons of 18's

when it comes down to whether the 18's will be heavier, it all depends on what wheels you go for. do a some research on the specs of the wheels. my guess is that the stock 17's weigh somewhere in 20's. changes are, i don't think the 18's are going to drop you any weight at at all, i'm guessing they'll actually just add on a few more pounds. if you're looking for light weight wheels, you're going to have to pay a bit more money. some examples are Enkei RPF1's and Volk TE-37's. also, when you increase the diameter of your wheels, it decreases the accuracy of your speedometer readings, but it should be minor.

If you go to a lower profile tire to get the same overall height it will make the ride rougher and noisier too plus if you have a lowered or stiffer suspension it will make it more likely to skip loose on rough corners.
I had heavy 18's on mine and went to light 17 and it made a huge difference in acceleration-even though the tire height stayed the same. (215/35-18 to 205/50-17now)

the centroid of the wheel doesn't matter at all, the centroid is always going to be in the middle of a circle. Also with the 18's you have more rotating inertia so you will lose some acceleration as the wheels require more power to get turning but it wont be very noticeable. overall 18's are a decent choice, if you're performance oriented go with 17's and if you're show oriented go with 19's, 18's are a good compromise

On page 2, input your stock tire size and your new tire size. You (ideally) want to be within 2%. You can go higher, but other items may be thrown off.
IMO, 18s are good. They will definitely give a firmer ride than the 17s, but make up for it in improved road response and handling (depending on the tire, of course).
If you're looking to keep a very smooth ride, you may want to consider staying with another wheel @ 17.

I just put 18s on and my ride has improved.........the rims are 1 lb heavier than stock and the tires I put on are a Lb lighter than stock..........so I ended up staying the same.........my stance with these is farther apart since they are 8" wide vs 7 wide stock and they have a a40 ofset vs45 stock........it feels tighter in the corners,but I do feel less roll on the body...........not much but I could feel the change..........the stock tires are nice but nothign compared to a nice sticky summer tire........

I have the TRD drop with Ground Effects kit...
How are the TRD 18's? Cause I want new wheels and I also want to change them out with the seasons and so I can put summer tires on them. I got estimate on Hankook summers for $70.00. Also if I went with the 18s; I want to buy a 5th wheel for my spare so would the back rub due to heavy weight?

35 series are amazing. I'm going to be running 235/35/19 and 225/35/19 once I get the money together for my new wheels. A lot of people can't believe i'm getting narrower tires up front, especially my dad. He wishes our BMW had 235s.
