Default rim width?

I have looked at all the rubbing charts on this site and was just wondering if anyone out there has 18 x 8.5 rims on there car lowered with no rubbing if so exactly what brand and size rim and tire, offset and inches lowered. I thank you in advance for your time on this.

18x8.5 ET 35 with 225/40R18 Falken FK452. Dropped on Tanabe DF210 about 2".
It will rub on full lock turns and some speed bumps. Not a real concern.

Nice rim choice! Your the only other bsp I've seen with those.

Man that white tC is cleaning looking! The drop & rim choice are working well, very well!

The rubbing is more dependent upon the offset (ET) and the tire width rather than rim width.

7" 205-225
7.5" 215-235
8.0" 225-245

The idea is you don't want to stretch the tire too much or have it bulge too much either.

The tC on a moderate drop accomodates up to a 225 wide tire very easily as long as the rim offset isn't lower than ET42mm

I'm having issues with my current set up, however before when I had 225/40R18x7.5 ET45 on a hotchkis drop I had Zero issues even under hard turning while braking.

Again the key is wheel size & offset. Also, make sure you keep the wheel diameter the same, that way you dont offset the speedo too bad & the tire is kept at the same circumference as stock.

My current set up with issue is the 18x8 ET45 DC6 V2 Tenzo's that Higgy's sporting but wrapped in 245/35R18 on a year old Hotchkis drop ( I swear these bastards have settled past 1.7F/1.9R ).

EdNog over at ystc is real knowledgable on the subject. here's link with a very useful tire size fitment chart on the first page of the thread.

To recap:

If you'd like to run an 18x8.5 make sure it is ET42 - ET48 , wrap them in a 225/40R18 size tire, and drop it with H-Techs, Hotckis, TRD, or anything else of similar specs and you'll be fine!

The wheels I want are 18 x 8.5 with a offset of 35, just like austinguy's. He has 225/40/18 and says it rubs a little on a 2" drop. I am getting the rs1 lip kit with the HKS hypermax rs coilovers on about a 1" - 1 1/2" drop I am assuming I would have less rub than him if any at all and I figure with the hypermax's 30 position dampening I could stiffen it or adjust the drop to get it to not rub at all what do you guys think. Xero why do you say use an offset of 42 - 48 when austinguy has a 18 x 8.5 set up and his offset is 35. I'm new to buying rims is there any way to adjust the offset on a set of rims that only come in one offset like most rims do, cause like I was saying the ones I want come in only 18 x 8.5 with a 35 offset in my bolt pattern. Any ides?

It rubs a bit on bumps and locked turns and only on the fender.

When looking for an offset between 42 & 48mm on a 18x8 or 18x8.5 @ 5x100 the selection sucks big time. I don't know why that is, but it just does.

I believe stock offset is 45mm.

If you go for a 35mm you are now 1cm (10mm) closer to the outer fender wall. Upgrade to a 225mm tire with 35ET and you are now 1.5cm closer to the fender wall.

Upgrade to a 245mm tire and you are now 2.5cm closer to the fender wall and it will rub & require rolling the fenders.

Right now I'm at 45ET with a 245, so I am 1.5cm closer to the fender wall and it is tight, real tight.

Natecis, Just don't plan on going any wider than 225's with an offset of 35.

I'd really recommend trying to find a rim with a 45 offset, so you have room to grow.
Don't forget the hubcentric rings either!

The hub bore for the tC is 54.1mm

you'll have comprimise your driving style and ride height if you dont want to rub. i think 18x8.5 et35 will fit fine on a 1.5" drop. you'll occasionally rub but thats to be expected. its like saying "I want lower my car but not scrape against anything", which is unreasonable to expect. luckily you'll have coilovers, so it'll be a trial and error thing to find the best height and dampening settings to suite your needs. i highly recommend Falken Ziex 512 or Toyo Proxes 4 tires which stretch really well and dont have large sidewall bolsters, which will minimize rubbing. Nanking and Visa tires also stretch well for budget tires.
