I just picked up some cheap new rims, some axis decades, well I had them on for about 20 miles and got a scratched rim (long story and it wasnt my fault). I bought cheap rims for this purpose of I know they are going to get pretty beat up, but is there any way to fix the rub? its not deep at all and it just scratched it a little. Going to a rim repair shop is out of question since there is none remotely close to where I live. I know I should of just painted my stocks and called it a day.

 

I'd like to hear how that happened especially after having them for only 20 miles.

Otherwise it looks like you could sand it out and polish it up.

 

I just did the same thing this weekend except my rims ARE NOT cheap. How would i fix this i know i need some kind of putty to fill it in, but what brand should i use?

 

to get into the Coast Guard base there is a small gate we go through and I was going through a gate and a car was backing up and didnt look so to avoid i swung right and there is curb. Only have 20 miles because I really just put them on, ran some errands and didnt even make it to my barracks room.

should I just hit it with some 2000 wet?

 

i would hit it with 400 wet, then 800 wet, then 1000 or 2000. After that you may have to buff it out still.

 

I would start with a wet mid to high grit sandpaper to keep it smooth as possible so you don't have to work a lot of extra smoothing out. Finish with the highest you can find, then get some metal polish and polish it out.

 

You should get those Ziex-512s with the "rim protection ridge".

 

Just make sure there isn't clear coat on the lips (which is on most). I would think it would like kinda funny if only one portion of the lip had the clear sanded off.

 

There's a bronze color behind it? Is that normal?

 

I think those are chrome. I don't think you'll be able to sand them down (as you will sand through the chrome).

It sucks, but that doesn't look too bad. I've got curb rash on my rims as well. It happens.

 

Ya the part that's scratched is chrome
