scuffed my stock RIMS!!!!!

Im pretty sure this isnt the first post about scuffed rims here but im in too much of rush and shock to look around 5-10 pages for it.:cry::cry:

it seems like a fairly good scuff. i was in the school zone so its got yellow paint all around the lip of the rim. i have serveral choices for now:
-wipe/sand/buffer
-wipe/filling/paint
-take it to a shop
the stock rims seem little bit darker toned then regular titanium rims. im in class right now so i cant show a image but ill post it once i get home.

mindoculae 09-11-2009 05:53 PM

definitely try to repair the scuffs yourself first. you may not totally return the rims
to new but you may be able to reduce the cost of professional restoration if you're
able to bring them back some.

kdaniel6217 09-11-2009 05:55 PM

how much you think it cost professionally done?

kiss_kiss_kill 09-11-2009 07:16 PM

A lot more than what it would be worth. You'd be better off purchasing a used stock wheel off someone. If it's not that bad, try sanding it down to smooth it a bit.

rosedaleny806 09-11-2009 07:18 PM

its a stock rim, who cares. now if u had wheels like tina, thats a whole different story. Just paint the stock wheels, sand it primer it, paint. and voila!

Jon 09-11-2009 07:20 PM

^If I only had my car for 3 days and scuffed my wheel I'd be a little upset too. I went 3 years without scratching mine and when I did I was quite ticked.

kdaniel6217 09-11-2009 07:26 PM

alright. i guess im not going to get it done professionally. I actually saw selling one new for $170 ea. But still i think ill just fix it up w/ sandpaper.

anyone know the color code for the tc rims

Perroski 09-11-2009 07:40 PM

dude $170 each?? thats too expensive!!!, down here in miami i can find a whole set of stock wheels for $200 either new or fairly well preserved.

rosedaleny806 09-11-2009 07:48 PM

eh, i guess i know what u mean jon but there jus stock wheels, i was mad afterwards painting them when i scratched them, that was only bc i had jus painted them lol

kiss_kiss_kill 09-11-2009 09:12 PM

1 wheel on my car has been curbed.....twice. Once happened on the way to SEMA when I got pulled over & turned onto a side street when it was 3am & pitch black out & the douchebagel cops were highbeaming me with all 4 lights & I couldn't see worth a damn. You can't even tell. I cried like a little sissy though. Another time happened when I drove into a nasty arse pothole by my friends shop & my car shifted slightly & nicked the sidewalk. That's barely noticeable either. Neither times did it go all the way through the chrome, needless to say, I got lucky.

SteveTC_RS_4-0 09-11-2009 09:46 PM

just get aftermarket wheels.

kdaniel6217 09-11-2009 10:05 PM

thanks all for great tips and alternative ideas. :):):)
yea so i got a better look of it after class. it wasnt a big scuff....except for the little 5mm chip on it. doh! and about 1~2mm scratchws around. its actually barely noticeable even in close range. except for the yellow paint.
i think i might just leave it as is for now. And since its aluminum, no rust. :)

@Kiss Kiss Kill: it seems like luck never comes to me. :( but gosh twice on same rim. your really tryin to tear the metal rnt u. :icon_mrgreen:

Haha, I know, that's the unlucky rim. There were imperfections in the chroming from day 1, too. I was incredibly ____ed the first time I curbed it....I was more ____ed about the curbing than the ticket itself, haha. But just the lip on my wheel alone is $400. =/

silverstreaktc 09-11-2009 11:15 PM

paint the rest of the rims yellow on the lip

Jtc 09-12-2009 01:31 AM

Now is a good time to get some xp at sanding and if it's really bad you have a reason to paint them

Murphys_Law 09-12-2009 02:06 AM

powdercoat them

kdaniel6217 09-12-2009 04:32 AM

so i went down to lowes..had nothing then i went to autozone...didnt have bondo so i just got the tires checked out...was fine so i jus went home. lets see wat i can do tomorrow. maybe get some wet sandpaper and at least make it look clean. get all the yellow sh i t off.

@Murphy Law: hmm whats powerdercoating do?? does it fill in the small chip??
@silverstreaktc: haha good idea but i think ill pass. i guess i might if it was a pimp my skool bus.lol

gosh $400!? did you get yours professionally done? im guessing they were aftermarket rims? i mean stocks can be found for under 200~300.

DJ08tC 09-12-2009 06:52 AM

^Thanks, no I don't mind. :)

It's barely even noticeable so I left them. You can seriously find a single stock rim for $50-$75.

p.s. lol, it was weird scrolling on this post. I'm still not used to Descendant having my car on their banner, haha (http://m1.2mdn.net/viewad/2206885/Wo...0v3_082409.jpg)

yellowxhoodie 09-12-2009 03:37 PM

get jbweld, fill in the suffed area, sand smooth, re-paint the wheel.
note: youll prob have to repaint all 4 wheels because i doubt youll find the OEM color.
