Default Smaller tires in the rear?

I need to replace two tires and my rear is rubbing bad with max camber 18x9 et12 can I run smaller tires and have it stetch?

225/40 18x9 et33

with
215/40 18x9 et12? It might help my rubbin with the fender hitting the tires
