Default Stripped Lugnut!! How Do I Take This Out!!

ok so i have a stripped lugnut on one of my wheels. how would i be able to take it out?? its stripped on the top where you put your wrench on. i tried taking it out with a torque wrench and i saw the lugnut turning but it wasnt coming loose. i think i might have to pull it while twisting. theres no way that i stripped the studs is there?? i didnt tighten it that hard so i wouldnt think i did.

*for flamers no i didnt strip it on my own. i went to toyota and asked them for a spare lugnut and they freakin gave me the ones that they throw away...GG

my friend said that theres no way to take that off besides taking it to a garage and they use a machine to take out the whole stud and you would have to replace the studs!! i dont want that to happen help me out people!!

yep, take a smaller socket and hammer it on (like they steal wheels) and then use that to get it off. the stock size is 22mm so i'd use like a 21mm or a 20mm and an 8 lb sledge

yea i agree with the wheel steel method.

Take a socket and hammer it onto the lugnut. The socket has to be small enough so that it can just fit over the lug when you hammer it. Too small and you wont be able to hammer it on and too large and it wont grip to the lug.

Hammer them socket on and then use some type of socket wrench or torque wrench to get it off. Oh and your socket will pretty much be useless afterwards because the hole will be demolished even if you somehow manage to rip the lug out of there. So buy an extra one at sears or wherever.

Haha.. ya, get one at Sears, beat the crap out of it and then exchange it for a new one. Should work just fine.

As always the best approach is the right tool for the right job.

Get an extractor set from Sears, Mac, wherever. This tool comes in a 3 size kit usually. The inside of the socket has a series of helix grooves designed to bite into the lug nut and remove safely and easily.

I second that opinion. My wife had the same problem with her tuner lugs and we took it to a wheel shop that had that tool and they removed it without messing up any studs. Just go to your local Sears and ask someone to help you find it.

I had the same problem about two weeks ago, I had my lug nut stripped completely, it was the one where you fit an allen key inside to remove the lug, not a socket. Well I went to pep boys, sears, tire kingdom and no one wanted to help because they said they were going to damage the rim, mind you I really didn’t care because I got new one.

Everyone told me to slam a larger allen and pray or torch the crap out of it. Heat the sucker until you can literally take it off with pliers because when heated the metal expands. They also told me about the remove the stud and other crap.

Then a friend told me go to MIDAS. I did they told me that they would take it off, no lie it took the mechanic 5 minutes, he hammered the ____ out of it to break it then chiseled it and turn it loose with his hands, mid that the lug was bent to a certain direction.

I say if you are mechanically inclined and take the risk of maybe damaging your rim do it your-self if not take it to Midas they will help.
