Default Want performance tires for my Motegi MR7

Do you know what tires would be best for these 17X7 Motegi MR7's? I was wanting to go with Nitto, but don't know what size to use. I want something that is a lower profile then the stock tires. I would also be up for some good Toyo or Goodyear performance tires.

a 225/40/17 would look fine and hook great.

you could go down to a 35 series, but that doesn't give your rim enough rubber protection from those potholes you were too late to swerve around.

Do you know of a good tire? I hear that Toyo Proxes T1S are good, but I want to make sure I get the best tire for the money.

i dont know about this whole "best" thing. I haven't driven every tire out there, i have no clue.

I'm happy with my azeni st115's though. you can safely find their limits when turning, and they have decent traction from a dig. can't ask for anything else in a sub 100 dollar tire.

Proxes T1R's are now the successors to the T1S's. What are you looking for in a tire? There's lots of great low cost options...you don't need to spend big bucks to get awesome tires. Toyo does make great stuff, some of the best. But for the money, there's better.

So...
Are you lowered?
How much do you drive in the rain?
How much do you drive in the snow?
Are you even worried about driving in the wet stuff, or are you looking for tires built for the dry stuff?
Are you looking to do any autocrossing with these tires?
How much are you concerned with tread life?
What's your budget?

Also, I agree with neothin...225/40/17 is the way to go. It's a wider tread than stock (obviously a good thing), and it's lower profile than stock (what you're looking for).

Answer some of those questions and we can go from there.

I live in Indiana, so there is some snow. I am really looking for a tire that will give me great traction at take-off and sometimes in the rain. The current stock tires I am running with the Motegi's are horrible. I am currently at stock height.

okay im gonna copy and paste a few of those that are mandatory to answer so that i can help you out...

[Rephrase] So you're somewhat worried about the rain.....but how much...do you want close to equal handling in the dry and wet, do you just want something that's an improvement over the stockers in the wet (and dry), or something in between those two?

How much are you concerned with tread life?

What's your budget per tire?

I'm assuming you don't auto-x....

I'm good with most brands but there's a few I'm not so familiar with, Hankook is one of them. From what I've heard though, some of their stuff is decent, some is crap.

That adds on another question...are you concerned with looks? There's a few tires built with looks in mind.

And don't worry about the look of the v tread thing...there's a lot of tires that offer that....or that offer much cooler looks.

Which recently won this:

amongst other accolades.

Great in wet and dry.

I really would like something with the V-Shape. I would also like to have something that performs good mostly in Dry, but would like some more grip in wet then stock. I like to go to the drag track about once a month, and the stock tires spin real bad. I would like to have a tire where I can laund close to 3,000 RPM, with out spinning half way through second. I was not wanting to spend much over $500.

I talked to a local tire dealer today, and they said they could sell me a set of Nexen 3000 tires 205/40/17 for $330 total. He said that it is a Dunlap brand. Is this a good deal?

Just cuz they're made by a name brand doesn't mean they're good.... plus this will be WORSE for you - they're 205... narrower...

A 225/45R17 tire will have you going 1mph faster than your speedo reads... I think that's the best choice. A 205/40R17 would just be retarded. When your speedo reads 70MPH you'd be going.. 66.7... that's a big difference IMO.

Go for the Toyo Proxes T1R.

Edit: I just googled those Nexen tires.... they're not Dunlop.... They're made in KOREA

ok just found this on tirerack....if you can live with not having the v tread thing (shouldnt be a big deal for such a great tire), this is one of my all time favorites. you WONT be dissapointed.... dunlop SP Sport Maxx....awesome tires. also, not as good as the dunlops but by far the coolest tread out there...the BFg g-Force T/A KDW goes for 125 on tirerack....i have them and they're way better than stock. lastly, check out the avon tech m550 a/s and the general exclaim UHP. neither of those will dissapoint (sp?) either.

Which one of these would be best?

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compar...=0&sortValue=0

I don't really want to spend over $90 a tire.

The best bang for the buck (for a performance tire) on that page is going to be the Kumho MX, but there also $101.00 ea.

Brand new? If not, how much tread on 'em? I'd say that's a pretty good deal if there's decent tread left
