I have 225/45-17 on my stockers safely. You can go up to 235 or MAYBE even 245, but neither safely. Safely you are limited to 225/45-17

225.. thats it.

235 will slip, anything bigger, obviously will slip as well.

Fatter tires on the rim are basically a no-no.
You end up changing the profile of the tires which as was said above, is not safe.
Get bigger rims.

Sorry, yes. 225 is OK.
I was waaaay tired last night.
In general, one-size up from the stock is OK.
I do it on my bikes too, depending on the purpose/bike/tire.
No more than that though.

I have the 225s...there is a noticable difference. But MUCH more noticable is putting on a quality tire. Toyo proxes 4 are my recommendation. You can get em for around $110 a tire or even less online.

i recommend Falken Azenis RT-615..

those things are crazy sticky, about 110 a piece and will out stick almost any tire in its price range and above.

only draw back is its 200 treadwear.

The only problem with both of those tires is that they are summer tires. Meant for dry/wet pavement only. soros, i know you're in puerto rico, so it works for you and blackonblack I see you're somewhere in CA, so it may or may not work for you as well depending on where. If you need an all-season tire however (a tire capable of driving in the snow/ice/slush/etc, the toyo proxes 4 is your best bet. If you don't need the all-season though, its another story. So just be aware of what kind of tires these recommendations are offering before purchasing.

We can run slicks here 95% of the year!
I have done that on one bike, and I have a friend with an AC Cobra (495 ponies at the crank) and he does on occasion.
If it's even a little wet though - BAM!
Only good if your KNOW you're not going to hit any water.

I am trying the Kumho 711 with the HP Hyperlights. They have like a 330 AA/A/W rating, so they should be good for a couple years...

lol - the weather!! I'll tell ya though, for an all-season tire, the toyo proxes 4 are unbelievable all-around. They offer the performance of a good mid-range summer tire (both wet and dry) while offering nice adaptability to the snow.

^^ I've heard that from a few people now.
I went with the 711's because I got a great deal.
If they suck, I can replace them without losing a lot of cash.
