dude spacers and adapters are both incredibly unsafe as they both move the stress from the hub to the studs which is very unsafe.

i agree. adapters are fine. I spent $100 on my billet adapters for my truck.

It's the spacers that are dangerous.

What i meant is that some spacers just go in between the wheel and the hub like a washer while adapters bolt on and provide new bolts for the wheels. So there are two types of spacers the kind that bolt on like adapters and the kind that just slip on like washers. I dont see how adapters move the strain to the bolts he they are bolting up like a wheel with a large offset.

Lol how about someone post some articles of car crashes caused by wheel spacers cause ive never heard of any. There are a couple other companies that make nice 15mm adapters i will post them when i get to a computer later.

Everything in this forum always turns into an arguement. I said show me proof i didnt say it doesnt happen i said ive never heard of it. H&R is a very reputable company and they also make these and actually market them as making your cap safer by widening it. The guy at wheeladapters.com has engineering experience and also states on his site that they are safe. Like i said before i think you are confusing spacers and adapter the spacers that just slide on are the ones that put strain on the bolts and are unsafe not the ones that bolt on, i have not seen anything saying the bolt on adapters are unsafe. That is why i asked someone to link to a topic showing there arent safe so we are not stuck on he said she said.

spacers are dangerous because they reduce the amount of threads that your lugnut has to grip onto.

these are spacers...

these are wheel adapters

thus the reason companies like H&R and Ichiba make wheel spacers that come with longer wheel studs

Spacers and adapters NOT the same? You do know the hub is the strongest part, that's why you shouldn't put on the spacers or adapters, you're shifting the stress point and as you rest the same amount of weight on the shortened length of lugs, it would be more prone to snapping.

for racing applications, or offroading, I definitely don't recommend running adapters.

I have some on my bagged s10 and have had no problems.

I'd say 9 times out of 10 the person is getting a deal on the wheels and its an opportunity. You can always find a way to get the right wheels to fit properly. It may cost a lot of money, but thats a price you should pay for your safety.

Spacers are just fine for daily drivers. When you start bumping up the horsepower and the stress you put on the hubs, the less reliable they will be. The only issues I have heard are with drag cars/race cars that put a crapload of stress when launching or cornering. Most of the issues occur with the cheaper ebayesque products that the consumers looking for a quick shortcut tend to purchase.

Just know that these are by no means as safe as a correctly spec'd out wheel. You are compromising your safety, but not that much as long as you put your money towards a quality adapter/spacer and you don't go launching from a dead stop @ 5,000 rpms.

also depends how big the spacers are too...

i dont see 5 or 10mm spacers making that big a difference as long as you're not on stock wheel studs...
