full debadging in process :)
so got a guy who comes up to my work a lot that we have all kinda gotten to know and hes a good guy. he wanted to take my old w7s off my hands and build him a center console box and get him a nice system for his truck. he happens to work at a paint and body shop, and i talked him into trading services. im doing a system for him, and hes doing work on my car.
did a couple minor fixes like shopping cart dent and slightly messed up rear bumper from backing into a pole, and is also doing a full debadge on it. rear garnish is done, just waiting for paint, and it looks beautiful! dont have all the pictures cuz my data isnt working on my phone, but heres a couple pictures of my front bumper
BEFORE:bumper removed from car, grille and scion logo removed

MIDDLE
enter pod that houses scion logo cut out

AFTER:bumper remolded to look like one solid opening for upper grille, and license plate holes filled in

im stoked. everythings at his shop just waiting to be painted first thing in the morning. i cant wait to see how it all turns out

ive actually watned to doa knight rider style led, but possibly green. i can do that at any time though cuz i know electronics.
and i will be rocking no upper grille / factory lower grille for awhile. theres a shop around here that custom makes grilles, just need a little extra spending money and bills paid before i get that done

alright! got my car back yesterday. delivered to me while i was at work, and i was so happy with the end result. i dont know if the pictures do it justice, but the modified front bumper really does change the look of the front end. very pleased with how it all came out.
heres some pictures of the front and rear for all to enjoy

my grille was free haha!https://www.scionlife.com/forums/sho...&postcount=531
btw one downside to debadgin the front is that it removes the support between the top and bottom of the top grille, this results in a slight sag that become apparent

but not as bad of course

mine was $150 rear; $600 front at a very popular body shop
you could do rear/practice on it since you can buy the rear garnish for ~$100
....actually I don't think it would be all that hard....for example....
Back: pop emblem off, there will be a maybe 5" oval indentation. Basically you're going to fiberglass it, bondo, and then sand it down till it blends nice and flush. Then you can either have a body shop spray the piece or go get a paint gun from harbor freight and give it a go yourself...either way, since the emblem piece is separate from the trunk, it's not like you have to respray and clear the whole trunk to blend.
Front: Basically just grab a reciprocating saw and saw out the piece holding the emblem. It would be easy because there are already lines around the emblem to act as a guide...just follow the circle. Once it's off, you're going to fiberglass, bondo, and sand again. It'll probably be a little harder because its not a flat oval. Either have a body shop spray the bumper or take the bumper off and give it a go like above.
There are a million videos you can watch on applying fiberglass and bondo, it's not gonna be super complicated. It's not like you're making a custom sub enclosure, you're patching two small areas with well defined shapes. Making the paint look good would be the hardest part, but you could always just pay to have the bumper and trunk piece sprayed for like 300ish. I think it would be the perfect project to get experience on minor body work, if you screw it up you just end up paying what you were going to pay to have it done anyway. I dont see how it could end up in catastrophic fail unless you lose control of the saw or something stupid. BTW, just googling "shaving emblem diy" I found a bazillion step by step diys and vids on other forums.
