Question HID bulb, ballast, or power problem?

New to the forum...I have a problem with a recently bought HID kit, so I need some help/advice or links with solutions.

Problem: The installation went smoothly and correctly, but my driver's side HID will turn on and a few minutes later turn off. The passenger's side works fine. The first thing I did to trouble-shoot was swap the bulbs from side-to-side and the problem went with the bulb. I swapped the "bad" bulb to the passenger's side and that side would turn on and a few minutes later turn off..and the driver's side worked fine. I swapped them back, and the driver's side was the one to turn off again. I didn't swap the ballasts from side-to-side though.

So...I'm thinking it's a bad bulb but I'm not sure. There is no delay in warm up or flickering. Also, I'm putting them into the stock 2012 tC projectors and not using a relay harness since they are 35W on the stock 55W wiring.

Yep looks like its the bulbs man. If both ballasts work fine with the good bulbs then there you have it.

What brand is the kit.

It's from DDM Tuning, Raptor 35W 6000K...I think I remember seeing that you have a kit similar to this one

Yeah man. I have had my 55w 6000k raptor for over a year now no problems. However, a couple months ago I installed a 35w 4500k raptor for my fogs. A week later I diagnosed one of the ballasts as being bad (problem followed the ballast not the bulb). I called them up to get an RMA and sent them back the defective ballast. They quickly shipped out a new one and I had it a week later. I was pleased with the service.

Yeah it took about 10 days or so to get the kit since it was shipped from China. But the ballast seem really heavy duty compared to other ones I've used for a Camry and F-150. I'm very pleased so far despite the bad bulb and all. And I contacted them yesterday about the problem, but I haven't heard back from them yet.

Yeah that raptor kit is solid! That's why I went with it over the slim kit. And I'd call them if I were you. They are awesome over the phone. I called them and had the RMA to send them back the same day.

Yeah if I don't hear back from them in an hour or so, I'll probably call them. I might even go ahead and order another 6000K kit for the fogs lol

I wouldn't go higher than 5000k for fogs. For some reason they look way more blue when they are in a reflector housing instead of behind a projector. The 4500k ones I got for my fogs are barely different than the 6000k in my headlights.

So you have 35W 6000K lows and 35W 4500K? Or are they 55W?

Would the 35W 4500K in the fogs look similar to 35W 6000K in the lows? Cause I've heard that the 55W is a little washed out looking..

35W 4500K and 55W 6000K in Projector low beams are the same thing. One thing to remember is that there are 2 things that cause color to wash out - Projector Headlights and 55W ballasts.

About the OP, It's a bad resistor in the bulb. If you look at the bulb there's a pole thing next to the glass, on 4300K it should be brown. You'd be amazed at how common that problem is, and if the bulb is bad you will know immediately. Once you get your HID's working with no problems, then they will work for eva eva

You say that like it's a bad thing! Basically it's going to make your 6000k's look less blue and more crystal white. Like this:

Hahaha beat you too it! But if you want the pure white look like steve ^ then go with the 6000K or 5000K. If you want a little bit of blue then go with the 8000K. And obviously if you want blue blue then go 10, 12, 15, or 30

I was just wondering with K bulb in my reflector fogs would look closest to the 35W 6000K in my projector lows..I don't want to have 6000K in both lows and fogs, but have one look bluer than the other

Yeah I am probably done with DDM if anything else fails. Tired of waiting for stuff to come from china. theretrofitsource is right in atlanta so shipping anywhere on the east coast is only a few days.

Hey guys so random thought. Salt water and electronics don't mix. My passenger side foglight stopped working. I swapped the ballasts and the problem followed the ballast. Guess I gotta get a new one...
