Default HID retrofit question

Does anyone know if there are any projectors that are as close to plug and play as possible?

I.E. a Lexus or Toyota HID projector that will, for the most part, plug right in to the headlight housing without any major modifications?

Thanks for the help

No, he's talking about an actual retrofit. This involves baking the headlight housing to open it up. Then swapping out the projector for one that is designed for use with HIDs. Usually one from a luxury car like Acura/Lexus/Infiniti etc.

You need to know the size of the projector. So unless someone else has opened a tC2 headlight, you're going to have to be the guinea pig. I've seen them on eBay if you want to buy one to practice on before messing with your originals.

How do you measure the size of the projector?

Seems like a waste of time to me. My HIDs work just fine with the stock headlights

I'm assuming you just measure the back of the lens or front of the bowl. Might want to look on HIDPlanet for that.

If you're not into it then of course it would seem that way. Luckily Toyota uses quality halogen projectors but that's not the case for every manufacturer, hence why retrofits are popular.

Wow they must have JUST added the kit for the 2011+. For the longest time they only had the 08-10. Tempting! I don't feel like baking my headlights again though

I was tempt to get it myself but I think the stock halogen projector will do just fine with some 6000k in them. And don't like the idea of having bi-xenons on the low beam projector while also having a high beam reflector next to it, seems overkill at least to me. The good part is that while you are at it with the headlamp open you can throw some LED strips in there

No such thing as overkill for high beams man...the brighter the better. I already opened my lights to install CCFL halo's, and I reaaaallly don't feel like doing it again. I hate having to take off my entire front bumper just to get the head lights off.

I agree with you though, I'm pretty satisfied with the stock projectors. Looking to upgrade from my cheapo DDM kit, but other than that things are all good.

I'm still debating as to change my highs to hid too because of startup time when changing to them, so I was considering leaving them halogen but I'm just not sure XD tell what you think I should do and would be killer in your head also what CCFL rings did you used and how difficult it was the whole ordeal! And how did you wired them?

RX350 and RX330 non-AFS, but you might still need to fabricate a simple bracket.

Oh, by the way, a retrofit is WORTH it. Much farther, wider beams.

if your going to be opening your headlights for a CCFL ring why not install a bixenon projector? thing is hella bright and you dont kill bulbs and ballasts because the shield moves allowing the full projector to be exposed

Actually after some deliberation and insights thanks to this thread I decided to do the retrofit when I get into the project of putting the CCFL's and LED strips

After seeing that picture I'm really confused now. I though the retrofitsource.com bi-xenon retrofit kit for the tC2 was to replace the Low Beam projector but here I'm seeing the High Beam side been convert to HID projector. So I'll still need to get a regular HID kit for the Low Beam + the retrofit kit for the High Beam?

The kit is only for the low beam. The stock projector is a halogen unit and you're replacing it with one designed for HID. The high beam reflector was removed and a projector was added. That's custom and not a part of the kit.
