cvt stick
I feel like a turd with all my ignorance. I have a 14 tc cvt automatic. After the car is warmed. (Because i won't do it cold) if i drop into sport shift the "gears" Will hang up to 3rd as in i have to upshift myself or no shift. IT DOES IT ONLY ONE TIME and then normal auto upshift in sport mode. It seems to be a first start of the day and after starting in cooler environment situation but being belt driven, there should be no fluid issues. Also, given the nature of tje beast, I've read and come to assume that there's no real shift points and therefore should be little to no shift underhood throughout "gears" or pulley transition? Thanks for any insight.
the Scion tC does not have a CVT. It has a 6 speed automatic transmission. It is not a Continuously Variable Transmission.
When the car is cold, it holds lower gears longer to help the engine warm up faster. Once it is warmed up, it goes back to business as usual.
Only the Scion iQ has a CVT gear box in the Scion line up.

Well, my only encounters were volkswagen and nissan. I'd ALWAYS trust Toyota for reliability and anything is better than my Acura TL transmission was, but even nissan wouldn't use a cvt in a car with over 270 hp. I dont plan to run a 10 sexond car nor do i expect to. I was mainly concerned with the assumed belt driven tranny on boost and regular spirited driving.
Just because a few cars don't use it doesn't make it bad. Just like any other transmission they are built for the application, stage 1 to stage whatever.
I'm just saying cvt is proven and is used in some high performance cars. They are becoming more brought on by manufucaters or whatever.

Glass isnt bad, its fragile, that doesn't make it completely impractical. When i refer to cvt being a glass transmission, my knowledge of borderline class action lawsuit involving nissans cvt transmission starting in 2007 from the every vehicle they offered below the performance line. Also, vw has had countless problems even electronically (go figure) with their cvt even in some of the Audi line. I understand the cvt dates back decades ago, but within my knowledge id never own one and a manual transmission isn't fitting for my daily commute or driving situation. I assumed that it was a cvt being 6 speed auto and a 4 cylinder. Okay now that Ive had to put my backstory and knowledge out on the table, can we close this?
