Not staying in 4th gear
I bought a 2012 TC with 134k miles on it. Got it dirt cheap knowing it runs fantastic and shifts great as well... but it doesn't go into 4th gear. It will pop out of gear if you try to put it in. The previous owner says it's the synchro ring. I've already called a few local transmission shops and they all say the same thing, that these are hard to find parts for and if they go taking it apart and I need something else, I'm left with a torn down transmission and no parts for it. This is the ONLY thing wrong with the car. I bought the car to flip it but I would like this issue fixed before I sell so I can get maximum return on it. Please let me know if there are options.
I was told that it could possibly be a worn shift linkage. Could that be the problem? Is there a chance it could only effect 4th gear? How would I check this to see?
