Didn't see a thread for painted parts, this may not belong here, but I just wanted to post these in it helps someone decide if they want to do it.

Used VHT engine burnt copper paint. 3 coats about 15 minute intervals. I did not use clear coat on this piece.

Unpainted, One coat wet, two coats wet, three coats wet, and three coats dry.

Short of it on the car

It definitely dressed up the bay a little bit. Not bad at all. I know there have been a lot of people to paint their heat shields. A lot of people paint them black or match the color of their car.

Krispy why r ur coolant houses white. Did u do that ?

Red2014tC 11-08-2014 01:09 AM

Because his car is still new-ish and the mold release compound hasn't worn off yet. My car has it too, but it is starting to wear off at 11K miles.

HOODedDutchman 11-08-2014 01:11 AM

Mine never had the slightest smudge of that. 2014... that's not what that I'd anyways. Look at it it's completely white and only on the right side of engine bay.

Red2014tC 11-08-2014 01:14 AM

Not sure why yours didn't have it, every new (2014+) tC I have seen has this.

HOODedDutchman 11-08-2014 01:17 AM

How come the small house above the rad doesn't have it but the ones to the right in the picture do. Weird.

hampton1100 11-08-2014 02:52 AM

Krispy, that red looks great!

SoKrispy 11-11-2014 04:25 AM

yeh im not sure what that white stuff is..but i hear white is right, so i dont bother it too much.. Thanks, not exactly done yet...i'm gonna mask off the hand burn on the top and go over it with a black to make it stick out a lil.

Practicing painting technique before i start using my HVLP paint guns

So Just as an update. To anyone thinking about this I highly recommend doing a few layers of Clear Coat. I originally thought it would create more problems than it would solve but without it the paint started peeling, not fun. Redid it and clear coated it heavily

Thanks hampton1100 for the Original Idea.
I also put 3 coats of Clear Coat.

I have an Upgrade planned in the near future that will take this
to the Next Level!

So, Just to clear things up. You are not chipping yet? Mine chipped horribly, I had to get it sandblasted it was so bad. I think I may try again. 3 Coats Paint, 3 Coats Clear? Any last minute tips?

The good news is that since mine is sandblasted, it's already rough and I don't have to sand...just degrease it.
