Default Tranny problem rumors?

Ive seen on a few posts people speaking about a tranny problem in the 11-13 models. Can anyone confirm these? and if so what is that actual problem??

Is it a definite to happen in all of the cars?

i dont think that there is a problem, i havent seen one posted. ive seen ppl say that the gear box isnt that smooth, but thats it. and this has been fixed by changing the fluid.

Toyota has a TSB on the rear input shaft bearing, but not all transmissions have this issue. Mine had, dealer tore the trans and replaced the bearing. Fixed the initial issue, but now there is a different much worse noise coming from the trans, just waiting for it to grenade now.

Yep, it is sad. It sounds like something is grinding inside the trans now.

For those of you with Manuals, do you guys get that low grinding sound on 1st, 2nd, and sometimes 3rd gear? It kinda sounds like a bicycle chain but with a deeper tone and its only when i give it gas.

Yep, rather annoying. I am very displeased with Scion at the moment, trans had to get torn apart at 16,900 miles? That is ridiculous, I am contemplating trading it in,

Are you referring to the noise the transmission makes when holding speed at around 2k rpm or so in those gears?

I have the identical thing happening up here, but mine is not all the time, from one set of lights to another it will happen than stop and light and go and its gone and than it will repeat itself, i had a Toyota Master Tech with me and the whole 30 minutes i was driving it didnt do it once, so im driving till the ____er is blown and will fight from there

My trans always grinds a bit since new going in to second. Not as smooth as the first one i test drove. At times at idle at a stop it wont go into first gear untill i try to put it in and slip clutch to get the shaft moving. Which has been talked about in this forum before.

2012 6 speed with 22,000 miles & the tranny has been out of the car twice.
Once for a throw out bearing and that didn't fix it so again for a input shaft bearing.
NOT happy..

not a good idea from what i imagine is happening there. I have this problem rarely and what i do is i get back to neutral, press the clutch in-out a few times(neutral) then it goes into 1st no issues.

What is the tranny noise issue people are talking about here? is there a video of it? I have heard a tiny squeak when in 2nd gear, and very slowly going up ramps in a parking deck (we're talking rpms that are close to bogging the car down) so i imagine that's just my fault not the trans'. I must just be stressing it too much there.

But an actual constant grinding noise in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd? have not heard it yet. i am at 14K and i hope i do not get this bug. does it happen into the 20Ks?

I don't understand why everyone's complaining about this "issue". I have over 100,000 miles on mine and it's still chugging along fine. Cars make strange noises...

My trans was rebuilt at around 14-15k, then it finally failed around 18k which is when a new was installed.
