Default The Alpine Hookup - Video-In from iPhone

Just hooked up the dealer optional video-in wire to the back of the Alpine HU and connected a Apple composite video out wire to new cable and now you can watch videos and many more things like web browser, email, twitter, GPS on your Alpine HU.

See video below....

Apple composite wire $39 at store and
Alpine wire from parts counter,

who ordered it from
http://www.optomizescion.com/
$29 for Alpine wire

This wire adds an composite input to your HU.... So anything with a composite out, portable DVD, Xbox, PS3 etc. will work

I finished the install (tucked and wire tied and ran the wires) and was just playing Pandora through my iPhone into the HU seeing the Album Art/Info on the screen using the composite wire/Aux In....

Ordered my cable today. Took forever for someone to find the damn thing. I think there was 2 or 3 people looking for it.

I hope that the unjail broken iphone 4 can do some of that or maybe i will just jailbreak it.

You don't need anything special for the info to show on the HU. The video out cable is it. Now I just need to find a micro-HDMI to component cable so I can do that with my Droid X. Once I get that figured out, I can watch streaming TV on my HU.

I was wondering what did you do with the USB connetction on the Apple Cable? Did you plug it into something or just leave it loose?

Default I had to use two wires....

Basically it will work at first, the sound will go through USB input. But, when you switch back to AUX input you have no sound. So I ran two wires, a regular iPod/iPhone wire into the cars USB connector (which I relocated under the panel). And I use the Apple Composite wire for Audio/Video into the AUX input. See video below...

So in your new video you said you added another USB for sound where did you plug that one into? The back of the head unit?

Default Two wires

The USB connector that used to be located next to the shifter is now under the plastic panel. And I filled in the vacant hole with a blank plug. The USB connector is now hidden under the plastic panel next to the shifter. This is where I have a regular iPod USB/30 pin wire connected. The other wire is a Apple Composite wire that connects to the new Alpine wire coming out of the back of the HU. So I only get Sound with the USB wire and Sound/Video through my HU by having it connected to the Composite wire. Hope that helps.

With MightyP's help, I was able to get my dealer to order this cable (took 3 phone calls and 2 mildly heated arguments. He dident like me "telling him how to do his job") but they told me 4 days, 14 days ago. I talked to anouther dealer that said the part is backordered and wont be availible till mid July. Anyone eles heard of this? Furthermore, anyone know of a dealer that has the part on hand? I dont mind paying shipping if I dont have to wait anouther month....Thanks all!
