Default Backup Camera with Pioneer AVH-P4400BH

So my $13 Koolertron reverse camera arrived in the mail today. I have my brand new 2012 Pioneer AVH-P4400BH unit installed and works great...

Now I'm not exactly sure how to wire the backup camera in. I know I have a few options -

1) tap into the power for the reverse light
2) run power to the front by the unit so I always have power to the camera

I'm not too concerned about running the wires, just a better option for the camera. I think running power to the front and tapping into the red ACC wire is probably my best bet, unless someone else wants to convince me otherwise.

Here's my biggest question though, does anyone know which wire I have to connect to the "reverse" pink wire that comes with my head unit? I want the head unit to display the backup camera as soon as I put the car in reverse. Which wire should I be tapping into for this?

thanks!

Just a quick question since I can't fnd the answer. I am getting either the 4300 or 4400. Can the amp under the seat be use for the either 4300/4400? Sorry to sound dumb on this one. Thanks guys......

Pop out the panel where the fuse box is.. Theres 2 harnesses all the way in back.. There's a red wire on the top harness... Very hard to get into.. Radio shack has the 2 part quick splice which makes it soooo much easier to tap into..

Btw you can wire the camera to the headunit.. If the camera button on the screen says off, it only turns on when you go in reverse.. Then you have the capability of turning it on whenever you want...

Pictures on the link I posted before is very helpful with finding the wire..

Splice extra wire into the reverse wire.. Run the wire behind the gauges all the way to the stereo. Then connect to the purple wire..

Can you be a little more specific? I have it running spliced to one of the lights in the trunk for power. Where else should I splice in for power?

You're not splicing for power... The purple wire on the harness that connects to the head unit. That's what you're connecting the to the red reverse wire.. DON'T CONNECT THE CAMERA TO THE REVERSE WIRE.

I know that. I currently have power spliced to one of the lights that lights up the license plate. I want to run it right to the reverse light power. Where is that exactly and how did you run it?

Then try the reverse light bulb on the back on the car... It doesn't matter where you get the power from.. All you have to do is connect the reverse line from the stereo harness to the reverse wire that's a pita to get to.. Why do you want to wire it to the reverse wire?

because now the camera only turns on when the headlights are on. So if they headlights are off, and I put the car in reverse, head unit will switch to backup camera, but camera will have no power

Mine is hooked up this way:

Red camera wire is hooked up to stereo red wire..
Black camera wire is grounded to a bolt.. Any bolt that is connected to metal on the car itself..
Purple wire from stereo harness is hooked up to the red reverse wire...

Everything works perfectly..
If camera button on screen says off, camera only comes on when in reverse.. Turns off when gear comes out of reverse..
If camera button on screen says on.. Camera is on all the time.. It has a delay turning on every once in a while..

Thanks. You said earlier that I should run power from somewhere else other than the head unit, so the camera is not always on. I know there is a power wire for the rear lights backup, I just am not sure where they are. Do you know?

Okay so I spliced to that red wire per the instructions. HOLY CRAP. That was insanely difficult. After 30 min of trying, I finally got it. Put the car in reverse, and nothing. POOOOOP.

Any specific type of wire I need to use? I was using 22awg Radio shack wire. I think I'l just have my local audio shop have a crack at it.

Another quick question... Did u install the HU yourself? If so did you use both wiring harness? The one I got from Best Buy came with 2 harness. One goes on the Pioneer black harness, but where does the 2nd harness (speakers wires for under seat amp, i think?) go? Thank you....

Use both harnesses. Just match up the wires to the harness that came with stereo. There will be wires that won't be connected. Make a bypass from te YouTube video and connect that to the green wire.
