Default My Rattling Door Solution (Dynamat)

My Solution involves Dynamat. For those who don't know the magical powers of Dynamat, it is a tape like sheet that is easy to apply and used by audio shops to reduce vibrations. I stopped by a local audio shop by the name of "World of Sound", they were very helpful and willing to sell a sq. foot of the Dynamat for 15$. This was more than enough for me to finish the project.

Project Necessities:
1. Time, Approx. 30-45 mins, patience is always key for good results.
2. Sq. Foot of Dynamat or any close substitute suggested by your local audio shop.

Procedure:

1.Dynamat

2. When lifting up this panel be sure to apply force at the suggested angle to prevent any permanent damage. The removal of this panel will result in access to the inside door where you will apply the Dynamat.

4. Begin applying the Dynamat nearly everywhere possible that won’t prevent the panel from being reattached.

5. Two key areas that prevent the above panel from rattling.

6. Line the Dynamat against the easier accessible parts on the inside of the door. There are a decent amount of blank areas which serve as the best spots to apply. The three biggest areas are pointed out in the picture bellow. These areas should be a big priority and will absorb a large amount of vibrations.

7. After firmly applying all of the dynamat to ensure a good stick, reattach the panel previously removed. Be sure to check all of the cracks around the panel to ensure a clean fit. Also remove any excess adhesive squeezed from under the tape, this may involve removing the panel several times to ensure a clean finish.

8. Congratulations! Rattle free doors! Enjoy the full clarity, sound, and performance scion intended you to receive from the beginning.

Any questions or concerns feel free to post!

Its usually the little pegs and clips that vibrate against the door because Scion built their cars like legos. I used a cheaper method by getting Poster Mount Stickers from any
Walmart and then taking the little square pieces and cutting slits of holes in them so they go around the little pegs that secure the door piece to the door.

Ya, their are definitely other methods that work. I figured a easily applicable product used specifically to absorb vibrations would provide one of the best results.

So I did the Dynamat as well, and it works a lot better than the foam for the panel. However, I found something else that's causing a significant amount of "rattling" that isn't actually from hard plastic-on-plastic contact.

The thin sheets of plastic that line the inside door are also vibrating with deep bass. I tried something that helps a bit, but doesn't completely eliminate it.

You can see the plastic in the picture with yellow arrows. The plastic goes almost all the way across the door and it's not really attached to anything, so it can vibrate quite a bit. I took a piece of sponge and wedged it in between the plastic wrap and the foam block (red arrow), and it seemed to help dampen the vibrations a bit.

I think if you want to do any more extensive rattle-dampening you'll have to take apart the door and dynamat the entire thing... but hopefully this is good enough for moderate bass.
