new box in the works.
so, took out my floor, and made a "false floor" style box with my 2 8w7 subs, firing up, and amps mounted towards seats, facing up, with a false floor with cutouts for subs/amps to be visible. sounded awesome. i love having a ton of bass. this setup worked amazing.
BUT, i have this problem. ive always wanted a system that i HAD TO turn down for daily driving because of how loud it is. these two w7's would be that for most, but it was just the right amount of bass for me.
sooo...started on a new box today. going to mix in a THIRD jl audio 8w7
if this isnt too loud for me, i have something seriously wrong
got the box part of the box done today. its basically a giant L shape.

net box volume is 3 cubic feet. with port displacement and speaker displacement, gross volume is 4.344. give or take a little
port is 1.5" by 27" by 35" long. snakes along back and bottom. box is tuned to 30 hz for that low low bass.
heres a rough idea of what i want the box to look like.

basically, on that lower part where the cargo mat is now, i will be building a new carpeted floor out of 1/4" or 1/2" mdf that will contour the interior panels so it looks like it is legitimately the trunks floor. then i am gonna build a cover for the upper part with matching carpet, but have vinyl on the face where the subs are to mix it up a bit to add to the overall look.
the whole idea for it, is to give it the appearance that theupper 10 x 10 x 37 part is all there is to the box, and the lower part just looks like a floor. so it seems that those little 8's in that little box are putting out massive sound
any input / questions are welcomed, wether it be positive or negative.
i would also like ideas on how i should do the floor. my original, lazy thought is straight up carpeted floor, nothing fancy at all, like most trunks. but i would love it if some of yall could help me think of a creative design i could kinda put into the floor to make it stand out.

this is rough idea of the cover for the upper portion. im thinking all the carpet in the back is gonna be charcoal. so in this pic, outside piece is charcoal carpeted area, and the top of it will be charcoal carpet as well. and then around the subs would be a black vinyl
and once again, input is welcomed
::EDIT:: i have charcoal and black carpet. the pieces in the back will be either one, depending on how well they match the interior panels. then the vinyl will be the opposite

I'm wondering about that amp and subs combo. Running three 3ohm subs in series gives ya 9ohms which will kinda make the amp weak and running them in parallel will definetly kill that amp at 1ohm.
I can't tell from the picture, but you will be putting a lot of weight on the face of that box, Id make sure that it is reinforced well and has lots of structure.
Also how are you securing the box to the car, not just gravity I hope. Be safe, if you wreck or roll do you want that box moving around or forward in the car. I'd strap it to a factory bolt location with some flat bar stock. I think there are tie down bolts on the wheel wells. Good luck.

the audison amp is one ohm stable, so itll be alright.
i do have internal bracing to help out the box
going to have some heavy duty l brackets put in to mount it down. one on the back where the backseat bolts down, and one on each side towards the rear of the vehicle

i should get the third w7 in about week and a half, so ill hopefully have all the trimming out work done by then. assuming i dont get lazy, lol. never got around to covering my last box cuz it sounded good and i didnt have to look at it
are you wanting it to look like a floor to go over the box? if so, there is a 'flexible' type of wood (want to say it was like a cardboard wood) that will make it 100x's easier. that's how i made mine. because in order to get the cuts precisely and to get it to fit in at no hassle that's the best method. its like maybe 1/2" in thickness, but still pretty sturdy
so, the new box covers the only light source in the cargo area, making it impossible to see anything at night.
so i had a project today
removed and relocated the cargo light into the hatch. purchased another matching light so i had two. re-routed the factory wiring in the side panel up and into the hatch to power up the two new lights. currently have reg bulbs in it, but will be putting cool white led replacements in them on tuesday when they arrive to match my dome lights

night shot with hatch open, without the lights

night shot, hatch open, with the new added lights. you can see it clearer in person, its just hard to capture on a cell phone pic. and leds should make it much better

decided on this mod cuz i was at a car show, hatch popped, and the later it got, the less you could see, and i didnt like that, lol
