Default Rear garnish rattle, need advice.

My rear garnish thing rattles like crazy even with the smallest amount of bass. I tested this by putting on music and gently pressing on the garnish, this took away the rattle.

I am looking for advice on how to properly remove the garnish without breaking it so that I can put something behind it to stop the plastic vibrating on the metal.

you talking about the trim in the hatch, or rear panels or what, rear garnish is fairly vague.

Oops sorry, I thought garnish was common terminology. The plastic plate that holds the SCION badge.

Here is a pic to clarify. This photo is from /u/devanb3. The arrows indicate where the aluminum meets the plastic causing the rattle.

I am looking to take this plate off so I can install something behind it to keep the aluminum and plastic separate from one another. I know alot of panels on the TC just pull right off, but I don't want to make a mistake when it comes to taking off the garnish.

If it's anything like the tC1, you should have access once you pull off the plastic trunk trim. Pretty hard to screw up, imo.

You will have to take the trim panels in the hatch off. Just a matter of gently pulling down on them. There are 4 bolts (or nuts, don't remember) to remove the "garnish" and you may have to disconnect the hatch release button wires/reverse lights.

I took mine off to paint the emblem and it wasn't that difficult. Maybe 5-6 minutes.

It may be worth mentioning that it is difficult to re-open the hatch if you accidently close it after you remove the wires for the hatch release. just keep that in mind. I had to crawl over the back seats and plug it back in while my friend held the panel in place so it didn't fall.

There's a mechanical release behind an access panel in the trim should this happen. There's gotta be a way to open it up if you don't have power of the button fails.

Thank You. I already took off the interior hatch panels during my rattle investigation. I will look for bolts before I go yanking the garnish off!
