tC2 Installation Kit and Wiring harness..
Hi there I'm new to this forum and have searched for a "good" answer to my question and haven't found much. Anyways, I'm wanting to know if anyone has installed an aftermarket single DIN deck yet?
I can't find an installation kit anywhere that fits. And the standard Toyota aftermarket wiring harness does not work for the 6-1/2" speakers on the bottom of each door.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm getting frustrated by not being able to use my aftermarket audio.
Thanks!!

I dont have a single din but I had a problem with the bottoms speaker also. There is a factory amp that powers the lower speakers. You need to wire the remote wire (blue w/white stripe) wire from the aftermarket radio to the power antenna wire for the wiring harness. I used a metra harness off ebay for a scion tc (no specified year)
I haven't seen a single din adaptor so far, but I haven't been looking either. I went with a double din with 7" touchscreen. That proves to have its own problems as well as the metra kit doesn't fill up the space well at all. If you go double, plan on drilling new holes in the factory braket and making your own plate to fill in the gaps.
As for the harness, the standard toyota harness does work, but just requires the extra connection to turn on the amp that is under the driver's seat so that the bottom speakers (6x9"s) will run. I don't really understand the need to change head units unless you plan on doing a full on system with all new speakers and extra subwoofers. The factory head unit does a pretty reasonable job pushing what it came with and it has 2 rca preouts for adding a sub if you want. Just curious what advantages a single din radio would have...
To do a single din, I believe, you could possibly still use the factory bracket, and then make something to fill in the space... but I didn't really come at the problem that way.

I did a single din install. I used a general 04 and up scion kit. None of the brackets worked no matter what we did. In the end we just ended up drilling a small hole on each side and used the stock bracket. Figured it will hold me off till a real install kit comes out. The only problem with this method is it will have gaps
. As for the wiring hit, on the install harness it has colors and the wires sometimes say whats its for. You have to look at the stereo manual to find out which is the remote wire and connect it to the remote wire on the harness.
A metra 99-8230 is what you should use for a mounting kit to make it look the best. The standard toyota harness metra 70-1761 will work with the wiring trick stated above to turn on the factory amp. The dash around the radio just pops off with a SOFT plastic pry tool, or if you can get ahold of it, just pull, then there is 4 bolts holding the radio in. It's pretty easy/straight forward from there if you have the mounting kit and harness. I installed car audio for 4 years while in college, message me with any questions.
