So I took my shift **** off to put a new one on and a spring popped out I put the spring back in but it looks weird like I can see it and its up against my new shift **** is there supposed to be a clip or something to hold it down?

If so where can I get one?

Without pictures, it's hard to say, but there is a spring at the top of the shifter for the reverse lock. TWM Performance has a short shifter installation manual that might help you. The link to it is here.
