So if you agree to that, you just gave your salesman $250 @ 25% commission, and the dealer $2250, on top of the profit they are making by selling you the RS7 (which isn’t much, thanks to pure pricing, but still)
I cannot stress enough what a rip off it is to trade in a car! You will ALWAYS make more money selling it yourself. Unless the car is only worth $1000, then sure, it’s not going to matter much, and is not worth your time.
Also, don’t get fooled into the "but you get tax savings if you trade it in" trap. Some states allow you to pay tax on the price of the new car after you subtract the trade in amount. Most people do not do the simple math to figure out what that really means. It is very rare that you come out ahead, unless you are buying a expensive car and trading in an expensive car. Example for an RS7:
New RS7 = $22000 X 6.25% for sales tax = $1375
New RS7 = $22000 - $7500 trade in = $14500 X 6.25% for tax = $906.25
$1375 - $906.25 = $468.75 making your total trade in worth $7968.75, when you could have sold it on your own easily for $9000. Why do I say easily? If the KBB trade in value is $9k, then the private party value is probably close to $10500. Your car listed at $9k in the paper is going to get more attention than the same exact car listed for $10k+.
Then take your $9k and use it as down payment, making your financing amount $14375 Vs. $15406

Not mine that's for sure, no Spoiler, Toyota wheels, no Tint and I take up 2 spots usually.
