So the factory Toyota auto dimming mirror is a little pricey, so I went ahead and did a different route. Found a Gentex mirror on eBay for bout $50 shipped with homelink and compass. Gentex makes many mirrors for automakers, this one is from a Nissan Murano (2005 I believe). I had to change the color of the compass because it was originally green, but a red sharpie does the trick . The mirror circuit board already has a prebuild circuit for illuminated buttons, but it is missing the LED's, resistors and transistors. 8 bucks later the buttons light up.

 

Thanks, Jim! Was interesting getting the light circuit to work, and best part is that the circuit ties into the light sensor it buttons are not illuminated during the day (no need).
