Default Exhaust help regarding headers

I'm running the short ram air INJEN intake and an EVO 2 exhaust. Really like the EVO 2's note and it's alot different than the other TCs running around here.

So a few ?s

I'd like to get the car a bit louder and/or more intimidating so I'm eyeing adding a header. I'd like to leave the midpipe stock. Are the cats on the midpipe? I'm confused because one of the DEZOD headers says catless?

So I was considering the DEZOD green or the WEAPON R. Opinions on either and is the header swap an easy install in my garage or does that need to be done in a shop due to accessibility?

We have a secondary cat in the mid-pipe on tC2s. Dezod make a catless header, but the Dezod Green does have a cat converter on it. If you go catless, you're gonna be raspy as hell- youtube can show you plenty of examples.

If I opt for the Dezod catless header, will I still pass emissions? The Weapon R doesn't state if it has a cat or not?

If you go catless, you won't pass emissions and you'll need a CEL eliminator or your CEL will be on. I'm pretty sure the weapon R is catless.

OK. So I'm wondering how all the people that went with the Red Header are dealing with emission tests?

From what I can tell on the youtube videos the green header is a lot less loud and not raspy. Sucks, because I was kinda going for the "loud, raspy" sound.

Ok, then catless might be the right choice for you. Most people either put the stock exhaust back on for emissions tests, bribe/know someone who will pass them, or get an anitfouler/CEL eliminator and pray the evaluator doesnt pop the hood or put the sniffer infront of their exhaust... What state do you live in? That matters a lot.

well that would be a major PITA to take to swap the header with the stock unit every 2 years or so for testing.

I live in Illinois. Any info on their testing?

Its Just ODBII Scanning in IL so you should be fine if you don't throw any codes and all the emission checks are ready in the ECU. I'm turbo'd on my 2012 with a 3" and no cats and a 2" de-fouler and I should pass next year when needed. I've already checked the ECU with a scanner and i don't throw any CEL's.

Ok so how does the Dezod cel eliminator work and is that easy to do a DIY install along with the red header?

If its just a spacer tube it pulls the REAR 02 sensor out of the main stream of gas for less oxygen and no CELs. I just grabbed a $10 stainless ebay one and it works great.

anyone know the cheapest place to pick up the Dezod Red? I'm also wondering if they might be doing special Black Friday pricing since that's only a few weeks away..

A new Dezod header is going to cost you the same pretty much regardless of where you buy it. IF they do a Black Friday sale, you won't save more than maybe $50.

If you want a deal, you need to snag one used. No harm in buying a used Red header since it's just pipes and doesn't have a cat that could wear over time.

There are a few tC2 parts for sale facebook groups (I'm a member of the tC2FTW parts for sale group). They have tons of members and you have a much better chance of finding something there than this dead forum. So sad because this forum used to be buzzing with activity and there were a ton of awesome and knowledgeable members.

Hey Carbine, mind posting a link to that? The weapon-R version costs $45

Oh and Thanks Biglilsteve for the info/advice. They are running a coupon code which takes about $50 off: tc2header (works at Dezod)

Guys. I'm wondering if there is a major difference in sound with the Green Dezod header versus the Red. I'm mainly going after sound and not worried about potential HP gains if any. Just looking for a louder meaner sound..

Opinions?

No matter what you do with the sound, the tC will never be a "mean" car. That's my opinion.

Yeah. Understood. Guess I should have said more aggressive sounding?
