Default My new tC

Picked it up from the dealership tonight. Didn't think I would be able to get into a new car so soon, but the dealer made me an offer that I couldn't pass up on my GTI. Goes back next week to have accessories installed, so for now it is bone stock.

I'll get some better pics of the new tC this weekend and post them up, but it's not like you guys haven't seen one before.

Being a Euro guy at heart, I probably would have kept the Dub lol. Any particular reason you traded it?

Prolly cause he's paying for premium gas or wanted something different. Welcome, hope you enjoy your new car. I believe you have md license plates.. What part of md do you live in?

Not to bash on your trade in.. I agree with Jon. If there was nothing mechanically wrong with the VW, I would of kept it myself. Congratulations on the new car, happy modding

Thanks for the warm welcome guys

Premium gas was definitely part of it. It had 83000mi, something broke everything 2000mi, and even had to have its engine rebuilt after I cracked the oil pan this past winter. With the new blocked it burned 6 quarts of oil in the last ~4000mi. Was time to make that car someone else's headache. I had the car for almost 4 years, it was coming up on being 6 years old and it was just time for a change. I'm paying less per month with a lower intrest rate and will not have a dime out of my pocket till the payments start in 3 months.

I'm from the Ellicott City area, any active groups or meets in the Baltimore metro area?

I was gonna think you were insane trading in your GTI for a tC until I read your reasoning. In that case, good trade in!

It was time to cash out. Only car that I still enjoyed driving up to the very end though.

Their is a "DMV crew" http://clubsciontc.com/forums/dmv-sc...ew-list-38753/ it's not as big a the v-dub, civic crew but its getting their.

They usually have meets every month and the next is this Saturday. http://clubsciontc.com/forums/dmv-sc...-39878/?page=1
But I was in the same boat, when I was cross shopping for new cars. And the gti, civic si, sti, and evo x were on my list. But the "pure price" was an awesome deal I couldn't pass up on.

Thanks for the links dude. That looks about the size of a Mazda group I was a part of when I had my 3, I'll have to check it out. Hopefully all the stuff I have on order will come in this week and I'll step out to PTuning on Saturday.

Those were all my list when I got the GTI. I came close to buying an SI instead, but really wanted a turbo'ed car. That ended up getting me in trouble, so I wanted to take a step back power wise since insurance doesn't like 3 tickets in 3 months, including a reckless driving...

Welcome!

I traded my mk5 Jetta with no mods in on the tC. The tC is WAY more fun to drive IMO - and I wanted to get back into the Toyota family.

Welcome to the family!

And I'll be contrary... I think you definitely made the right decision trading in the VW. Having had both, German engineering is great, but I'll take Japanese logistics (reliability, maintainability, and availability for you loggy types) every time.

My MKV was a bit more fun to drive than the tC, but considering it was stage 2+, ~300whp dropped on Koni Coilovers w/ hotchkis front and rear sways, compared to stock, I am definitely more than okay with how the tC feels, for now, haha. Since I am still in break in I haven't really pushed the car to it's limits yet anyway, hell I don't think I have been above 4000rpm yet. Plus, since the GTI was in the shop half the time I owned it I couldn't really fully enjoy it, I'm looking forward to Toyota reliability.

Thanks for the love guys!

Yeah I still have the Volks, and a lot of other parts. I should have a healthy mod-budget at least haha

I didn't have any luck with VW either. My wife had a 99 Turbo Beetle. It stayed in the shop for everything from warped heads, broke timing chain, crack oil pan, leaky turbo... Electrical system was messed up as well... Not sure about your GTI, but VW Beetle parts are expensive... We ditched her Beetle for a Equinox and a year later, she upgraded to a 2011 xB. Shortly after, she convinced me to trade my 07 tC for a 2011 tC... and thus begun the Scion family

Welcome and happy modding.

Oh yeah, everything was expensive for the gti. Between mods, repairs, service, I probably spent upwards of $15,000 in the last 4 years and it was only getting worse. Major problems started around 74k. I blew my fuel pump because of a faulty cam follower which also damage the cam-shaft. Did the timing belt and waterpump then too thinking I would be good for a while. 4k later a rock takes out my oil pan during a snow storm, sheared two bearings and it needed an engine replacement. Countless boost leaks, blown DVs, coilpacks, etc, literally something broke every thousand miles. Broke an axle once too haha.

Sounds like a nice little family man, I have a lot of friends with Toyota/Scion/Lexus and they have almost no problems. Hell I'm pumped to not have to pay anything but gas/insurance/payment for at least the next two years LOL.

Thanks for the welcome!

Wow, I was going to give you all hell about getting rid of a Turbo VW for a tC, especially with everyone throwing in turbo kits around here.... BUT as you've seen and many of my co-workers have dealt with, if the VW starts breaking, just hand over your wallet/child/home to the Gods of Car Repair.

Best of luck with the new whip, just think of it this way, you now have 3 years of covered relaxing times, and by then the market will have plenty of turbo kits to throw on if you want to go nuts!
