Default New guy...

Well, I'm brand new here... literally my first post. I'm picking up my brand new super white tc on Monday and I wanted to know if there are any mods that people feel are "essential" per se. I know that I want to pick up a short throw pretty much immediately (actually I'm thinking of ordering one today), however I'm not sure which... Probably trd... anyone suggest anything else?

Thanks in advance guys!

C/o? I'm slightly dubious to lower it... I lowered a car before and spent a lot of money on an eibach kit and it was a nightmare... Couldn't hit bumps, couldn't go up hills without scraping, etc.

Welcome to the family!

It's hard to say what is absolutely necessary for a given person. Most people who mod pick up HIDs, springs and an exhaust.

I would say cable bushings are more important than the short shifter, though I have both and recommend both.

Appearance wise, lowering springs make the car look a ton better. HIDs, some LEDs and a dash LED swap make the car look much classier. Intake and exhaust, a nice shift ****, RedlineGoods leather products and maybe a sub will really round out the look and sound of your car without breaking the bank.

As for performance, it depends on what you want to do and how much you're willing to spend. I'd still recommend springs, intake and exhaust. Minor improvements but noticeable. Tires are a must and some body stiffening parts (better sways, bars and braces) will help with the twisties.

Enjoy the new ride and keep us posted!

Ok ok that depends on u or your preference.

Many on here like Super Stance.. which means flush fitment with nearly no fender gap.
^this to me is more looks than drive

If your like me in the turns.. Stock springs are not acceptable.

The TRD springs are an awesome compromise to look, feel, drive-ability and price (compared to coil-overs). They are designed to work with stock struts and shocks. One person reviewed them and complained how they pogo'd in a turn due to poor damping. The only thing I can conclude from that is either their shocks are bad, hit an excessively large bump and turned too abruptly and hard. From personal experience they feel more than great. I've gotten about 20% - 30% increase in turning speeds on the Springs alone. Haven't gotten strut braces or sways bars yet. They are covered by Toyota's warranty and do not void other's(huge for me). Bottom line the car handles like a boat on stock setup and for $217 shipped from TRDsparks.com you can't beat the difference in feel or the look.

I personally don't like slowing for many imperfections in the road.. I dodge what I can. As rough as bumps can feel with these.. any lower would be nuts here in Florida roads at least.

C/O = coilovers

TRD, Eibach Prolines and Tein H-tech drop your car but not so much you'll scrape. Just gives it that European car ride height

How much are the TRD springs installed roughly?

*edit* I can't believe that I couldn't figure out that c/o meant coilovers.

Install them yourself in a couple hours with common tools. Add $50-$70 for an alignment.

Shop will probably charge $250+

the easiest, quickest mod to do....

replace that ugly long stick excuse for an antenna and switch it out for a sleeker stubby

tinted windows also are a must (esp in the hatch so people can't see the junk in ur trunk)

I have trd...decent low, absolutely no rub/scrape and negligible ride difference. I figure Eibach & H-tech the same

there's a thread that explains the install really well, it's not that difficult at all. I had mine done @Toyota because I ordered them with the car, It was like 399 installed, I would definitely do it myself and save the cash if I had a do-over.

Can kill the alignment cost with good timing. Head up to your dealership service center for your 5k interval maintenance and tell them its pulling. Free alignment.

I dig it... Ordering a short throw and the springs... anything else? I don't really want an exhaust... Hate the extra noise...

While there is much debate about HIDs and our housing. I say it looks great and another huge difference in the look of the car(at night).

My fav light mod since its noticeable day or night is LED swap on the turn signals. During the day normal amber bulbs reflect orange throughout the housing adding an unwanted color to the color scheme. LEDs don't do that, leaving a more Euro appeal, plus look ultra crisp in operation. Many people get a relay to get rid of the increased blink rate. I personally like the fast blinking as I've noticed more people yield to my lane switch efforts with it.

As MightyP said its hard to say what everyone wants/feels is crucial to have.

Just look though some build thread and see what looks appealing.

Most of the threads have summaries of the mods on the 1st page so you can jump right to the mod

Here are few that have summaries with page numbers so you don't have to spend hours reading the whole thread:
